The Penn Powerstix Pro 13ft surf rod has been designed to be used with lighter lines down to 10lbs and strong 60lb shock leaders, to maximising casting range when conditions such as calm, clear water in daylight limit the amount of fish close to shore.

The design blank also allows anglers with average casting ability to reach greater distances for the same amount of physical effort than would be possible with shorter conventional beach casters.

The Penn Powerstix Surf range has seta high bench mark for Surf rods under £100.

I've been looking at 3 piece rods for a while now. Not the worlds greatest caster and tired of lugging an 8ft tip/5ft butt combo around.
My biggest concern (like most people I expect) was the early 3 piece rods had a history of breakages. So with reservations I settled on buying this and giving it a shot.
Finish is very good. Certainly better than you'd expect for a rod this price. Tip felt a little stiff and I figured it would bounce around as a result and possibly bite detection could suffer. I was wrong on both accounts. Sit's well in the rest and bite detection is very impressive. Casting wise, instant improvement over my previous rod by about 10%. Wouldn't be fair to name that rod but you could buy a few of these for the price of it! Perhaps that rod was too much for me to handle, but all I will say is if you're an average caster (100yds with bait on a good day) you will be impressed with this rod. As for my fear of breaking it, no worries on that score. I'd be very surprised if the average angler could tell it's a three piece as opposed to a two. AND it fits in my boot!

Very happy.
