Product Details and Uses

Korda Kaizen Platinum Rods

The Korda Kaizen Platinum range isn’t just another set of carp rods; it’s the result of over four years of intensive research, development, and a “no-compromise” design philosophy. The brainchild of Danny Fairbrass, these flagship rods were built for the angler who demands the pinnacle of performance. While the “Green” range offers incredible value, the Platinum is the elite athlete of the rod world—thinner, lighter, and packing a recovery speed that must be seen to be believed.

Built using super-tensile, high-grade Japanese carbon, the Platinum blanks utilize a super-fast taper. This means the rod transitions from a stiff butt section to a forgiving tip very quickly, allowing for massive compression and—more importantly—a lightning-fast recovery. When you release the lead, the rod tip stops vibrating almost instantly, reducing friction on the line and adding those vital extra yards to every cast.

Pro Tip

Let the Carbon Work: Because the Kaizen Platinum has such a fast recovery, you don’t need to “manhandle” the rod. Many anglers make the mistake of trying to “snap” the rod forward. Instead, focus on a smooth, progressive cast. The high-grade Japanese carbon is designed to load and unload with surgical precision; if you time your release right, the rod will do 90% of the work for you, launching leads to distances you previously thought were impossible.

Examples of Where to Use

  • Extreme Distance Fishing: If you are fishing massive gravel pits or inland seas where the fish are holding at 140–160+ yards, the Kaizen Platinum is your best friend. It was built specifically to reach those “untouchable” spots.

  • Precision Competition Baiting: The 12ft 6in Spod Rod is a specialized tool. Shortened slightly in the tip and butt compared to standard 13-footers, it offers incredible maneuverability. Use it to group Spombs with laser-like accuracy at range.

  • Woven Weed Situations: The high-tensile carbon provides a backbone that is second to none. When you’ve hooked a “unit” in thick weed, the Kaizen Platinum gives you the structural confidence to apply the pressure needed to keep the fish moving.

  • High-Pressure Syndicates: On waters where every other angler is fishing at 100 yards, being able to accurately hit 130 yards with a smaller lead and a stealthy approach can be the key to “unlocking” the lake’s residents.

FAQs

Why did Danny Fairbrass choose a 12ft 6in length?

Danny personally designed the 12ft 6in model because it offers a unique “sweet spot.” It provides more leverage and distance than a 12ft rod, but it is much easier to move through the air and control than a 13ft rod. It feels like a 12ft rod in the hand but performs like a 13ft rod on the cast.

Is the tip ring safe for braided line?

Yes. Unlike some lightweight stainless guides, the Platinum’s 16mm tip ring is ceramic-lined. This is specifically included to handle the high-friction “sawing” effect of braided mainlines or spod braids, preventing the ring from being damaged during heavy use.

Does the fast taper make it prone to hook pulls?

While the butt and mid-section are incredibly powerful, the “super-fast” taper ensures the tip remains responsive. This allows the rod to absorb the lunges of a carp under the tip, providing enough “cushion” to prevent hook pulls, even when using low-stretch lines.

How does the “recovery” affect my casting?

When a rod “recovers,” it returns to its straight position. A slow rod will wobble after the lead is released, which creates waves in the line and increases friction through the rings. The Platinum stops almost instantly, meaning the line flies through the guides with minimal resistance, resulting in further, more accurate casts.
