Welcome to Gerry’s Fishing, the UK’s premier destination for high-performance predator fishing tackle. Whether you are a seasoned specimen hunter or a newcomer looking for your first pike fishing starter kit, our collection is curated by expert anglers to ensure you have the edge on the bank.

From the ferocious strike of a freshwater shark to the subtle take of a specimen perch, predator fishing requires robust, reliable, and specialist equipment. Our range covers everything from heavy-duty pike rods and lure fishing reels to essential terminal tackle and fish care accessories.

Specialist Predator Fishing Rods & Reels

The foundation of any successful predator session is your rod and reel setup. We stock a massive variety of spinning rods, jerkbait rods, and deadbait rods from industry-leading brands like Savage Gear, Westin, Abu Garcia, and Fox Rage.

  • Lure Rods: Designed with fast actions for pin-point casting accuracy and the backbone to set hooks firmly.

  • Predator Reels: Choose from high-speed spinning reels or powerful baitcasters (multipliers) featuring silky-smooth drag systems to handle the explosive runs of a trophy pike.

Premium Pike Lures & Artificial Baits

At Gerry’s, we pride ourselves on having one of the most comprehensive ranges of pike lures in the UK. Our selection includes:

  • Hard Baits: High-impact crankbaits, jerkbaits, and swimbaits that mimic wounded prey.

  • Soft Plastics: Realistic paddletails, shads, and grubs infused with scent and action.

  • Surface Lures: Perfect for summer pike fishing, providing heart-stopping topwater takes.

Essential Terminal Tackle & Fish Care

Sharp teeth and powerful jaws mean you can’t compromise on your predator terminal tackle. We stock heavy-duty wire traces, fluorocarbon leaders, and ultra-strong braided fishing lines to ensure you never lose the fish of a lifetime.

Fish care is our priority. Every predator angler’s armoury should include long-reach forceps, bolt cutters, and a specialist predator landing net. Our range of unhooking mats and slings ensures that every pike, zander, and perch is returned to the water in peak condition.

Predator Fishing FAQs: Expert Advice from Gerry’s

What is the best rod for pike fishing?

For most UK anglers, an 8ft to 9ft spinning rod with a casting weight of 30-100g is the most versatile option for lure fishing. If you are deadbaiting, a 12ft specialist pike rod with a 3lb or 3.25lb test curve is recommended to cast heavy baits and set large treble hooks at distance.

Should I use braid or monofilament for predator fishing?

Braided line is highly recommended for lure fishing because it has zero stretch, providing better “feel” of the lure and instant hook sets. We suggest a minimum of 30lb to 50lb braid for pike to ensure you can pull through weed or snags. For deadbaiting, a high-quality 15lb monofilament is often preferred for its abrasion resistance.

Is a wire trace always necessary for pike?

Yes. Pike have over 700 razor-sharp teeth that will slice through mono or braid instantly. Always use a wire trace (minimum 20lb–30lb) or a very heavy fluorocarbon leader (over 0.80mm) specifically designed for toothy predators to prevent break-offs and “tethering” fish.

What are the best pike lures for winter?

In winter, a pike’s metabolism slows down. We recommend larger soft plastic shads or slow-sinking jerkbaits that can be worked slowly with long pauses. “Dead-slow” retrieves often trigger a strike when the fish are less willing to chase fast-moving prey.

Can I use my carp net for pike?

While a large carp net can physically hold a pike, we recommend a specialist predator landing net with rubber-coated mesh. Pike have a habit of rolling, and their teeth or lure trebles can easily become dangerously tangled in standard nylon mesh. Rubber mesh protects the fish’s slime coating and makes unhooking much safer for both the angler and the fish.
