The Gemini SRT Springs (often referred to as Genie SRT Springs) are a small but essential piece of terminal tackle in sea fishing, specifically designed for use with clipped-down distance casting rigs.

SRT stands for Snood Retaining Tension or Snood Rig Tension.

Key Purpose and Function

The primary role of the Gemini SRT Spring is to manage the tension and length of the hook snood (hook length) during casting, especially in high-stress rigs like cascade or loop rigs.

Reduces Snood Stretch: In clip-down rigs, the snood material is often thinner and lower breaking strain than the main rig body. During a powerful cast, the drag and acceleration cause the snood line to stretch considerably. The SRT Spring is placed on the rig body, and it compresses during the cast. This compression counteracts the stretch in the snood, helping to maintain the snood’s original, precise length, cast after cast.
Prevents Unclipping: By preventing the snood from stretching excessively and becoming too long, the spring ensures the hook remains under optimum tension in the bait clip (like a Gemini Splash Down or an Imp) throughout the cast. This virtually eliminates the risk of the hook prematurely unclipping during the cast.
Dynamic Release: The spring assists in a dynamic release of the hook from the clip upon impact with the water, ensuring the rig deploys correctly.

Usage in Rig Making

The SRT Spring is typically threaded onto the main rig body line, along with a bead and crimp, and positioned just above the snood swivel or loop that attaches the hook snood. The setup creates a cushioned anchor point for the snood.

Essential for Multi-Hook Rigs: They are considered almost essential for complex, multi-hook distance rigs like Cascade Rigs and Loop Rigs where precise snood lengths are critical for the rig to clip together and function correctly.
