Here at Gerry’s Fishing, we know that kayak fishing is explosive across the UK, allowing you to reach pristine, unpressured marks that bank and boat anglers can only dream of. However, paddling against tidal currents, river flows, or a stiff headwind can quickly sap your fishing energy. Enter the Watersnake ASP T24 SW Transom Motor with Kayak Bracket—the ultimate lightweight propulsion solution designed specifically to transform your kayak or small canoe into an efficient, fish-catching machine.
The ASP T24 is the most compact motor in the legendary Watersnake lineup, offering a perfect balance of portability and reliable power. Delivering 24lb of thrust, this motor is specifically engineered to handle both saltwater and freshwater environments with absolute ease. The clever inclusion of the specialised kayak bracket means mounting it to your craft is straightforward and secure.
Featuring a simple high and low speed control alongside a forward and reverse switch, navigating tight creeks or holding position over a deep sea reef is incredibly intuitive. The design is packed with marine-grade features, including a corrosion-resistant alloy shaft, a stainless steel propeller shaft, and a sacrificial anode to protect the motor from the harsh realities of saltwater use.
This compact powerhouse is incredibly versatile for the modern UK kayak angler:
Estuaries and Saltwater Sea Lochs: Ideal for navigating coastal flats, tidal estuaries, and sheltered bays when hunting bass, pollack, and flatfish without wearing yourself out paddling against the tide.
Large Inshore Reservoirs & Lakes: Perfect for covering vast expanses of freshwater when trolling for big pike or searching for deep-water perch and zander.
Sluggish Rivers & Navigation Canals: Great for effortlessly moving between spots on larger river systems or canal stretches, allowing you to focus 100% of your effort on your casting presentation.

“When setting up your Watersnake T24 on a fishing kayak, battery placement is everything for safety and performance. We highly recommend placing your 12V battery (preferably a lightweight lithium lifePO4 pack to keep overall weight down) inside the central or front hatch of your kayak. Running extension leads from the battery to the rear-mounted motor keeps your kayak perfectly balanced and sitting flat in the water. Also, don’t forget to utilise the anti-impact clip system on the mount—leave it set so that if you accidentally drift over a hidden sandbank or rock reef, the motor can tilt up harmlessly rather than damaging your transom!”
Can this motor really handle saltwater use without corroding?
Yes, absolutely. The ASP SW (Saltwater) series is built for the sea. It features an alloy shaft, a stainless steel propeller shaft, and a built-in sacrificial anode that absorbs the brunt of electrical corrosion. Just ensure you give it a quick rinse with fresh water after every saltwater session to keep it in tip-top condition.
What kind of battery do I need to run this motor?
The Watersnake T24 runs on a standard 12-volt system. You will need a deep-cycle marine battery or a modern 12V lithium trolling motor battery. A 50Ah to 100Ah battery will give you plenty of runtime for a full day of mixed paddling and motoring on the water.
Is the bracket difficult to fit to a standard sit-on-top fishing kayak?
Not at all. The included kayak bracket is designed to adapt easily to standard transom setups or existing motor mount areas found on most modern fishing kayaks. It features adjustable clamping and securing points to make installation simple.
How does the weedless propeller handle heavy weed and kelp?
The two-blade weedless propeller is specifically shaped to shed underwater grass, kelp, and lily pads rather than letting them wrap around the hub. While it handles standard structure incredibly well, if you do get into exceptionally thick, solid weed beds, a quick pop into reverse usually clears the blades instantly.
