What is Slow Pitch Jigging?

Slow pitch jigging is a specialized technique that uses a rod with a soft, parabolic (even) bend and a lightweight, fluttering jig. The goal is to impart a very specific “fluttering” or “dying baitfish” action to the lure. The rod’s action is crucial for this, as it allows the angler to work the jig with a rhythmic, up-and-down motion that makes the lure fall in an enticing, horizontal “pitch” rather than a straight drop.

Rod Blank and Construction:

Material: The Prevail III is built on a rugged graphite composite blank. This blend of materials provides an excellent combination of strength, durability, and a light weight. The graphite component ensures the rod is sensitive enough to feel the subtle taps of a fish on the drop, while the composite blend adds the backbone needed to fight large, powerful fish.
Action: This rod features a Moderate Fast action. This is a key characteristic for slow pitch jigging. The moderate fast action allows the tip to be highly responsive and sensitive, but the bend extends further down the blank than a traditional “fast action” rod.
