Description

Sakura Ryokan SW Spinning H 8′ (14-42g)

The Heavy-Duty Powerhouse for Big Lures and Big Surf

The Sakura Ryokan SW (Saltwater) 8′ Heavy is the “big brother” of the range, specifically engineered for anglers who need more muscle. While the lighter models are for finesse, this Heavy (H) action rod is designed to punch out larger lures into the teeth of a gale and extract powerful predators from the heaviest kelp and roughest reef ground.

Built on the proven High Performance IM30T Carbon blank, this rod provides a massive amount of lifting power without becoming cumbersome. The 8-foot length is a classic choice for shore anglers, offering the leverage needed for long-distance casting and the height required to keep your line above the breaking surf.

Technical Highlights

  • IM30T High Modulus Carbon: This blank is optimized for “fast” recovery. It loads deep into the mid-section to launch lures up to 42g, then snaps back instantly to give you total control over the lure’s action.

  • Fuji K-Frame Guides: The “K” series frames are angled specifically to prevent the braid from looping around the guide during a cast (wind knots). This is essential when using the heavier 14-42g lures that put significant strain on your line.

  • Enhanced Casting Range: The 14-42g rating makes this rod incredibly versatile for “big bait” tactics. It effortlessly handles large 150mm+ minnows, heavy metal casting jigs, and weighted soft plastics for deep-water Pollock.

  • HD EVA Grip & Ergonomics: The handle is designed to be slightly longer than the MH models, providing the necessary leverage for “double-handed” casting to reach distant sandbars or reefs.

Where & How to Use It

  • Heavy Shore Spinning: This is the tool for the job when the sea is “big.” It has the stiffness to rip a Salty Blade ZN 90 through a heavy current and the backbone to stop a 10lb+ Bass from diving into a rock crevice.

  • Deep Water Boat Luring: Excellent for working “soft shad” lures in depths of 15-30 meters. The heavy action ensures that when you strike, the hook penetrates the hard jaw of a large Pollock or Cod instantly.

  • Big Game Freshwater: An ideal rod for European Pike fishing, specifically when using large swimbaits or heavy spoons in deep reservoirs.

  • Surface “Popping”: The stiff tip is perfect for “chugging” large surface poppers or working heavy “Walk-the-Dog” lures that require a lot of rod pressure to create the desired splash and noise.

Gerry’s Pro Tip:

“If you’re fishing the Atlantic coast or the English Channel during a spring tide, you need this 14-42g version. The extra ‘grunt’ in the blank is a lifesaver when you’re trying to steer a big fish through a heavy swell. I’d pair this with a 4000 or 5000 size reel and a slightly thicker Sensibraid (0.17mm – 0.20mm). This setup isn’t just a rod; it’s a winch for the surf
