The Sunset Boat Rig RS Competition Chinu Special is a premium, high-strength trace designed for the most powerful members of the Sparidae family. While the “Sea Bream Special” focuses on finesse and long drifts, the Chinu Special is built for combat with “hard-mouth” species like Large Giltheads, Brown Meagre, Red Porgy, and Black Bream. Featuring specialized Chinu-style hooks, which are renowned for their aggressive offset point and incredible strength-to-weight ratio, this rig is designed to find a hold in the toughest of jaws.

At Gerry’s Fishing, we recommend this rig for anglers targeting specimen fish over “rough ground” or mussel beds. The 160cm body combined with 30cm fluorocarbon snoods provides a robust presentation that can handle the violent initial run of a trophy Sparid.

How to Fish: Pro Recommendations

Recommended Baits: This rig is designed for “substantial” baits. Use cockles, whole squid, large squid tentacles, or sardine fillets. For Brown Meagre or large Giltheads, a “cocktail” of squid tipped with a king ragworm or a piece of peeler crab is highly effective.
Sinker Choice: Sunset suggests using a colored egg-shaped sinker (white or yellow). These act as a visual attractor in the “dust cloud” created as the lead bounces along the seabed. Weights between 80g and 220g should be used to suit the depth and current.
