The “Big River” Strategy: If you’re fishing a 5000 size on a large river like the Trent or the Severn, the extra line capacity is your insurance policy. We recommend loading the Aluminium Spool with 15lb monofilament for Barbel fishing in heavy snags. The 5000 size has a larger spool diameter than the 4000, which significantly reduces “line twist” and helps you gain more line per handle turn—vital for keeping a big fish’s head up and away from sunken trees!

The 5000 size holds roughly 200m of 0.35mm line, compared to the 180m of 0.30mm on the 4000. This makes it much better suited for heavier breaking strains (12lb+) without running out of line on a long cast.

Can I use the Free Spool in a fast current?

Yes, but you will need to tighten the rear tension dial. The Intenze FS allows you to add enough tension to prevent the current from pulling line off the spool, while still allowing a fish to take line when it moves the lead.

Does the spare spool have a line clip?

Yes, both the aluminium and graphite spools feature high-quality line clips, allowing you to “clip up” and hit the same spot with pinpoint accuracy every time.

Is it salt-water safe?
