Product Details and Uses

Sakura Mitsio Slow Jigging Spin MISSJ2 6’3″ 200g Max

If you are looking to master the art of “Slow Pitch” jigging, the Sakura Mitsio Slow Jigging Spin (MISSJ2) is a precision instrument designed to bring your lures to life. Here at Gerry’s Fishing, we know that slow jigging isn’t about brute force; it’s about the “dance” of the jig. This rod is specifically engineered to have a highly technical recovery, allowing the tip to “flick” the jig on the lift and let it flutter naturally on the drop—a movement that is irresistible to predators like Bass, Pollack, and Cod.

Product Details & Uses

The MISSJ2 is built on a world-class Japanese Toray HM36T High-Performance carbon blank. This high-modulus carbon is what gives the rod its “sublime” sensitivity. Because slow jigging relies on feeling the jig “kick” and detecting the lightest of touches on the fall, the HM36T material is essential. It provides a progressive fast action that is slim and lightweight in the hand but possesses a surprising amount of backbone when a large fish tries to dive back into the reef.

This Spinning (Spin) version is designed for use with fixed-spool reels, offering great versatility for those who prefer the ease of a spinning setup over a baitcaster. Fitted with genuine Fuji guides and a Fuji reel seat, the rod is built to handle the constant friction of thin, high-performance braids. The 6’3″ (1.90m) length is the “sweet spot” for vertical control, ensuring you can manipulate jigs up to 200g with minimal physical effort, even in deep water or moving tides.

Prime Locations & Uses:

  • Slow Pitch Jigging: Optimized for the technical “slow” style of jigging where lure animation is more important than speed.

  • UK Reef & Wreck Drifting: A fantastic choice for working metal jigs and “slow blatt” lures for specimen Pollack, Bass, and Cod.

  • Deep-Water Finesse: The 200g max rating allows you to fish in significant depths while maintaining a level of “feel” that traditional heavy boat rods lack.

  • Saltwater Versatility: While a specialist tool, its sensitivity makes it an excellent rod for working large soft plastics and “dead baits” vertically.

Gerry’s Pro Tip

“Slow jigging is all about the ‘snap’ of the rod tip. My advice? Don’t overwork the rod. The Toray HM36T carbon is designed to do the work for you—a simple, rhythmic lift of the rod is enough to send that jig into a beautiful horizontal flutter. Pair this with a high-quality 4000 or 5000 size spinning reel and a very thin, multi-color braid. The sensitivity on this blank is so high you’ll actually feel the jig’s ‘vibration’ as it falls through the water column!”

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is the difference between “Slow Jigging” and standard jigging?

A: Standard (Speed) jigging is about fast, aggressive vertical movements. Slow Jigging uses specialized lures designed to “flutter” and fall slowly, mimicking a wounded baitfish. This rod has a more “elastic” tip to facilitate that specific fluttering action.

Q: Can I use a multiplier reel on this rod?

A: No, this is the Spinning (MISSJ2) model, which features guides designed for a fixed-spool reel hanging under the rod. If you prefer a multiplier or baitcaster, you would need the “Casting” version of the Mitsio.

Q: Is 200g the casting weight?

A: In jigging terms, this is the Maximum Jig Weight for vertical fishing. It means the rod is designed to correctly “bounce” and animate a jig up to 200g in weight. It is not intended for power-casting 200g leads from the shore.

Q: Why use Toray HM36T carbon?

A: Toray is the industry leader in carbon fiber. The HM36T (High Modulus) rating means the rod is thinner, lighter, and much more “responsive” than standard carbon. It “snaps” back into position faster, which is the key to successful slow jigging.
