The GTR is built on a high-tech Nano-Carbon blank further reinforced with Spyrowrap technology. This construction provides a massive strength-to-weight ratio, ensuring the rod is light enough to hold all day but possesses enough “grunt” to winching a specimen Ray or Cod through the surf. Unlike many stiff continental rods, the GTR features a specialized glass tip. While it’s rated up to 8oz, the ‘sweet spot’ for distance is usually a 5oz or 6oz lead. The glass tip allows the rod to load very progressively, making it one of the most ‘user-friendly’ power rods we’ve ever tested. Also, use the Sure Grip System (SGS) at the joints; it makes taking the rod apart at 2 AM with cold, wet hands significantly easier!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a 2-piece 14ft rod difficult to transport?

Because it uses a “short butt / long tip” configuration, the tip section is approximately 8ft long. You will need a full-length rod holdall (like the Akios Sea Trek 150cm+) and ideally a vehicle with a roof rack or a long interior. The trade-off is a much better casting action compared to most 3-piece rods.

Can I use this rod with a Multiplier reel?

Absolutely. The Fuji KWAG guides and the sliding reel seat make this rod 100% compatible with both fixed spool and multiplier setups. You can slide the reel down for a ‘low-mount’ multiplier cast or up for a ‘high-mount’ fixed spool retrieve.

Why a Glass Tip instead of Carbon?

Carbon is great for power, but a glass tip is much more “forgiving.” It bends further before the power of the blank kicks in, which is vital for two things: keeping your bait intact during an explosive cast and showing very subtle bites that a stiff carbon tip might miss.

Does the sliding reel seat slip?

No. The Akios sliding screw lock is extremely secure. When paired with the EVA collars, it locks firmly onto the Japanese shrink rubber. It’s designed to stay put even during the most powerful pendulum casts.
