The Gemini Standard Grip Assembly Kit is the backbone of the Gemini System 100+, representing the most popular and versatile breakout system in the world of sea angling. This kit provides the perfect balance of holding power and reliability for the vast majority of beach casting scenarios.
The “Standard” grip is engineered to keep your lead anchored firmly in sand or shingle against moderate tides and swells. However, the true genius of the design is the “Breakout” mechanism: the moment a fish strikes or you begin a firm retrieve, the high-tension plastic rollers release the stainless steel wires, allowing them to fold back. This eliminates the resistance of the “anchor,” ensuring a smooth, drag-free retrieval.
| Feature | Details |
| Grip Type | Standard Breakout (Relatching) |
| Material | Marine-grade Stainless Steel & High-Impact Polymer |
| Mechanism | 4-wire independent breakout rollers |
| Compatibility | Fully interchangeable with all Gemini System 100+ Sinkers |
| Kit Contents | 4 x Standard Breakout Heads, 16 x Standard Stainless Wires, 4 x PVC Sleeving |
| Primary Use | General beach casting, sand and shingle seabeds |
Pro Tip: To maintain the perfect “trip” tension, ensure the PVC sleeves are pushed firmly down the wires toward the head. If you are fishing in particularly calm water and want a “hair-trigger” release, you can slightly shorten the PVC sleeves. Conversely, if the lead is tripping too easily due to small waves, slide the sleeves further up the wire to increase the tension required to release the grip.
General Beach Casting: The go-to choice for 90% of UK shore fishing. It provides enough grip for standard tidal flows while remaining highly aerodynamic for maximum casting distance.
Match Fishing: Ideal for rapid-fire sessions. The standard grips are the easiest to reset and “re-latch,” allowing you to get your baits back out into the water with minimal downtime.
Clean Ground Marks: Perfect for fishing over sand, fine gravel, or mud where you want the lead to “set” quickly and stay put until you decide to move it.
Mixed Species Hunting: Whether you are targeting whiting, dabs, or pouting, the standard grip offers enough resistance to facilitate a “bolt-effect” hookset without being too difficult to retrieve on lighter tackle.
How do I reset the grips after a cast?
Simply pull the stainless steel wires back toward the nose of the lead and “click” them into the plastic rollers. You will feel a positive snap as they lock into place. They are now ready to be cast and will hold until they are put under direct pressure.
Are these wires rust-proof?
Yes. Gemini uses high-quality stainless steel for all their wire components. While we always recommend rinsing your terminal tackle in fresh water after a saltwater session to prevent salt buildup, these wires are designed to last for years in the harshest marine environments.
Can I use these on any weight of Gemini lead?
Absolutely. Because the System 100+ is modular, these standard heads will screw onto anything from the 90g “Splash” lead right up to the 210g “Long Tail” versions. This allows you to standardize your terminal tackle across your entire lead range.
