Fishing “Naked”—mounting your Chod or Helicopter rig directly onto your monofilament or fluorocarbon mainline—is one of the most effective ways to fool wary carp in clear water. At Gerry’s Fishing, we know that removing the leader offers ultimate stealth, but it used to come with safety risks. The Korda Naked Chod Safety System has completely revolutionized this approach, providing the safest and most effective way to fish rotary rigs without a leader.
The genius of this system lies in the No-Trace Bead. In the event of a line breakage, a standard bead can get stuck on weed or debris, tethering the fish to the lead. Korda’s No-Trace bead features a massive internal bore and a unique side slot; once it pops off the sleeve, it falls away from the line entirely. This leaves your hooklink’s ring swivel free to slide right off the end of the broken line, ensuring the fish is never left towing a lead.
Ultimate Safety: The first system designed to guarantee hooklink ejection even when the line is covered in weed or debris. The “No-Trace” mechanism is a genuine lifesaver for fish.
Tungsten-Impregnated: Both the Chod Sleeves and Barrel Beads are loaded with tungsten. This extra weight ensures that your mainline is pinned firmly to the lake bed, preventing “line liners” and spooked fish.
Mainline Protection: The sleeves and beads are designed to grip the line firmly enough to stay in place during the cast, but slide safely under the pressure of a hooked fish.
Streamlined Stealth: Because there is no bulky leader, the profile of your rig is incredibly slim, making it almost impossible for carp to detect in clear water.
Complete Kit: Each pack contains all the components needed to set up multiple safe “Naked” presentations.

Ultra-Clear Gravel Pits: When fish are leader-shy, fishing “Naked” with a fluorocarbon mainline like Korda Kontour and this safety system is the most discreet presentation possible.
Silty Lake Beds: Helicopter rigs are perfect for silt. Use the Barrel Beads to position your Chod rig a few inches up the line so that when the lead plugs into the silt, your hookbait stays perfectly presented on top.
Weedy Venues: If you are fishing in gaps between weed beds, the No-Trace system is essential. It ensures that if a fish weeds you up and causes a breakage, the hooklink can still jettison the lead.
Roving/Stalking: Because you don’t need to spend time splicing leaders, this system allows you to set up a safe, effective rig quickly when you spot a fish in the margins.
The “Bead Spacing” Rule:
When setting up your Naked Chod, always leave at least 6–10 inches between your lead and the bottom Chod Sleeve. This “buffer zone” ensures that the lead has room to move without pulling the rig into the lake bed. Also, always moisten your mainline before sliding the tungsten components into position. This prevents “heat burn” on your mono, which can seriously weaken your line’s breaking strain!
Will the beads slide during a big cast?
No. The tungsten-impregnated rubber is designed to grip the mainline tightly. As long as you are using a standard diameter mainline (above 0.30mm), the beads will stay exactly where you put them, even during 100-yard+ casts.
What happens if I lose the No-Trace beads?
The system is designed for the bead to fall off in a “worst-case” breakage scenario. While this means you lose the bead, it ensures the fish is safe. Replacement No-Trace beads are available separately here at Gerry’s Fishing.
Can I use this with leadcore?
No. This specific kit is designed with a smaller internal bore for Naked setups (mainline). For leadcore or fused leaders, you should use the Korda Leadcore Chod Safety System, which has a wider bore to accommodate the thicker leader material.
Which mainline works best with this?
Korda recommends using a fast-sinking, heavy mainline like SUBline or Kontour. These lines complement the tungsten components to ensure the whole setup sits flush on the deck.
