The Korda Splicing Needle is a precision-engineered tool designed for the technical angler. While it may look simple, this needle is built to the exact tolerances required for “splicing”—the process of looping leadcore or fused leaders back into themselves to create exceptionally strong, streamlined, and knotless connections.

Featuring a high-visibility orange handle, this needle is easy to locate in your tackle box or if dropped in the grass. The ultra-thin, low-diameter wire is coupled with a micro-latch gate, allowing it to pass through the center of braided leadcore effortlessly without snagging the internal fibres.

Splicing Leadcore: The ultra-fine gauge is essential for threading through the middle of the leadcore’s woven outer sheath once the lead wire has been removed.

Pro Tip from the Gerry’s Fishing Team

Check the Gate. Before you begin your splice, always ensure the tiny latch gate is moving freely. When pulling the braid back through the leadcore, the gate should close automatically. If you’re struggling to get the needle through the sheath, try a “twisting” motion rather than just pushing—this helps the needle find the hollow center of the weave without catching the strands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this needle strong enough for heavy-duty baits?

While it is “Super Strong” for its intended purpose, this is a fine-gauge needle. It is specifically designed for splicing and delicate work. For large, hard boilies or tiger nuts, we recommend using the Korda Heavy Latch Needle (Green Handle) to avoid bending the fine wire.

How do I clean the needle?

If you use it for baiting and it gets covered in fruit syrups or fish oils, simply wipe it down with a damp cloth and dry it before storage. This prevents the micro-latch from becoming “sticky,” ensuring it continues to operate smoothly for your next splicing session.

Why is splicing better than a knot?

Knots create a “strangulation” point where the line can cut itself under pressure. A splice uses friction over a long surface area (usually 30mm–50mm), which preserves the full strength of the leader and allows it to pass through weeds and guides much more smoothly.
