Description
The Avid Extremity Ultra-Series 13ft Spod Rod is a high-performance bait-delivery tool engineered for long-range baiting with heavy Spomb and spod rockets. Constructed from a premium blend of 30T and 40T high-modulus Toray carbon, this 13ft blank combines massive compression strength with a fast-taper action, generating high tip speeds and power transfer to launch heavy bait payloads with accuracy.
The multi-directional carbon lay-up reinforces the blank against compression twist, ensuring straight lead trajectories and consistent grouping at distance. Rapid blank recovery eliminates tip wobble after the release, reducing line friction through the 50mm–16mm PrecisionFlow Anti-Frap guides. Finished with a Fuji 18mm DPS Gunsmoke reel seat, a full Japanese shrink-wrap handle, and a flared butt grip, it provides control during heavy baiting campaigns.

Pro Tip
When casting fully loaded, heavy spods or Large Spombs at extreme distances, pair this 13ft rod with a low-stretch braided mainline and a 30lb–50lb braided shock leader. The stiff 13ft leverage arm combined with zero-stretch braid transfers all kinetic energy directly into the rocket, allowing you to hit distant spots accurately without the blank cushioning the cast.
Ideal Applications & Use Cases
-
Extreme-Range Baiting: The 13ft length provides extra leverage and tip speed needed to drop spods over 100+ yards on large inland gravel pits and reservoirs.
-
Heavy Payload Delivery: Easily handles fully loaded Spombs, large bait rockets, and heavy spods filled with damp boilie chop, hemp, and particle mixes without over-flexing the mid-section.
-
Feature Finding & Plumbing: The fast-taper, stiff recovery Toray blank makes an excellent heavy marker rod for transmitting bottom feedback (gravel, silt, weed) through braided lines.
Frequently Asked Questions
What guide size ring is fitted on the butt guide?
The rod features a 50mm PrecisionFlow distance butt guide tapering down to a 16mm anti-frap tip ring to accommodate thick braided shock leader knots cleanly.
Why choose a 13ft spod rod over a standard 12ft model?
The additional foot of length increases your arc and leverage during the cast, allowing anglers with good casting technique to generate higher line speeds and hit extreme-range spots beyond the reach of a 12ft setup.
Does the rod feature anti-frap tip guides?
Yes, the PrecisionFlow guide set incorporates anti-frap frame geometry to prevent the braided mainline or shock leader from wrapping around the tip ring during high-velocity casts.
