If the 220g model is the “heavy artillery,” the Daiwa Supercast Feeder 14′ 180g is the high-performance long-range sniper. For 2026, Daiwa has refined this blank to offer the perfect balance between massive casting potential and the finesse required for superior bite registration. Here at Gerry’s Fishing, we consider this the “gold standard” for anglers who need to hit the horizon on large stillwaters or hold bottom on the UK’s most famous big-river stretches without sacrificing the “feel” of the fish.
Constructed from super high-grade carbon, this rod is built to work for you. The fast-loading blank stores energy quickly during the cast and—crucially—recovers almost instantly. This lack of “wobble” or tip-bounce means your line flies through the SeaGuide Anti-Tangle guides with minimal friction, resulting in tighter groups and significantly longer distances. It’s a rod that rewards good technique but has enough raw power to bail you out when the wind picks up.
The Supercast 14′ 180g is a specialist tool designed for high-performance distance work. While it possesses a powerful backbone capable of steering large barbel away from snags or pulling a double-figure carp through a distant weed bed, it isn’t a “poker.” The action is designed to be progressive, ensuring that you don’t pull the hook when a big fish makes a sudden lunge under the rod tip.
The extra-long handle is a standout feature for 2026. By increasing the distance between your hands, Daiwa has increased the leverage you can apply, making it much easier to “compress” the high-grade carbon blank. Combined with the Armlock handle, which locks the rod securely against your forearm, you have a setup that offers total control during both the cast and the retrieve.

To maximise the “Fast Recovery” blank, we recommend using a tapered mono leader or a braid-to-mono setup. Because this rod uses shortened carbon Quiver Tips, it is incredibly sensitive. If you find the rod is “tripping” in heavy current, try stepping up to the heaviest tip provided; the shortened length ensures the rod remains stable in the wind while still showing the most delicate of drop-back bites.
The River Severn: Perfect for those middle and lower stretches where you need a 5oz (140g) lead to hold the bottom in high water.
Large Continental Venues: If you are heading to the Ebro or large French reservoirs for heavy-duty feeder fishing, this rod provides the strength required for big, hard-fighting fish.
Distance Bream Fishing: Ideal for venues like Lough Erne where you might need to punch a large cage feeder 70–90 meters to reach the shoals.
Q: Is this rod too stiff for smaller fish like skimmers?
A: While it is a “Supercast” rod with a 180g rating, the high-grade carbon and shortened tips are surprisingly responsive. It’s overkill for 2lb fish at short range, but at 60m+, it provides the necessary control to bring smaller fish to the net safely.
Q: Why are the Quiver Tips “shortened”?
A: Standard long tips can often “oscillate” (wobble) after a big cast, which creates friction on the line and reduces distance. By shortening the carbon tips, Daiwa has made the rod settle faster and improved the overall balance of the 14ft blank.
Q: Does the Armlock handle really make a difference?
A: Yes. When you are reeling in a heavy feeder or a large fish from 80 meters out, the rod naturally wants to twist in your hand. The flat-sided Armlock design rests against your arm, preventing that twist and reducing fatigue over a long session.
Q: Can I use this for sea fishing from a pier?
A: While designed as a freshwater feeder rod, the SeaGuide Stainless Steel guides and high-grade carbon mean it is more than capable of light sea work (long-range flapper rigs for flats or whiting). Just be sure to rinse it with fresh water after every salt session!
