Product Details and Uses

Drennan Carp Feeder Mono (300m)

At Gerry’s Fishing, we know that when you’re seriously into your feeder fishing, a 100m spool just doesn’t cut it. You need enough line to fill a modern 3000 or 4000-sized spool properly, and that’s where the Drennan Carp Feeder Mono 300m bulk spool comes in. This isn’t just a “standard” monofilament; it is a specialized tool designed to solve the two biggest problems in feeder fishing: line buoyancy and visibility.

The magic of this line lies in its fast-sinking properties. Unlike standard monofilaments that want to “bow” in the water column or drift with the surface tension, this mono slices through the surface and pins itself to the lakebed. This keeps your line tight, your bite detection razor-sharp, and—most importantly—prevents spooking fish that are feeding over your groundbait. The dark brown tint is the perfect camouflage, disappearing against the murky bottoms of most commercial carp fisheries and silty riverbeds.

Built for the “Commercial” Grind

Commercial carp fishing is brutal on line. Frequent casting with heavy Method feeders and landing high-octane fish requires incredible abrasion resistance. Drennan has balanced this toughness with a controlled amount of stretch, which acts as a vital shock absorber when a big carp decides to make a last-second lunge at the net. Despite its rugged nature, it remains supple enough to peel off the spool effortlessly, ensuring your accuracy remains “bang on the money” cast after cast.

Technical Specifications

Breaking Strain Diameter (mm) Spool Length Best For
5lb 0.20mm 300m Finesse bomb and light cage feeder work.
6lb 0.23mm 300m The “all-rounder” for Method feeder fishing.
8lb 0.26mm 300m Targeting larger carp or fishing near snags.
10lb 0.29mm 300m Heavy-duty work on large venues and rivers.

Examples of Where to Use

  • The Method Feeder: The 6lb and 8lb versions are iconic for Method feeder fishing on commercial waters, where sinking the line quickly is essential to avoid “line bites.”

  • Distance Ledgering: On large reservoirs where you’re “on the clip” at 60 yards+, the 300m spool ensures you have plenty of line for those long-range casts and the inevitable “re-spool” mid-season.

  • River Feeder Fishing: The 10lb version is a fantastic choice for targeting Chub and Barbel. Its high abrasion resistance protects against rocks and gravel, while the brown tint blends with the riverbed.

  • Winter Bomb Fishing: Use the 5lb strain for ultra-subtle winter work when the water is clear and the fish are shy.

Gerry’s Pro Tip

“The beauty of the 300m spool is that it’s the perfect amount to fill two match-size spools or one deep-pit spool with a bit of backing. To get the absolute maximum ‘sink’ out of this line, give it a wipe with a cloth dampened with a bit of washing-up liquid as you load it onto your reel. This removes the factory lubricant and helps the line break the surface tension even faster. And remember—always check the last few feet of your line for nicks after landing a big fish; even the best mono can take a hit from a dorsal fin or a submerged snag!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose the 300m spool over the 100m version?

Value and convenience. 300m allows you to fully load a spool without needing multiple knots or excessive backing line. It also means you have spare line left over if you need to cut back the first few meters after a few heavy sessions.

Is the brown tint too dark for clear water?

Not at all. On the bottom, most lakebeds are a mix of dark silt and decaying organic matter. The dark brown tint is designed to absorb light rather than reflect it, making it far less visible than “clear” lines which can often catch the sun and look like a neon wire under the water.

Does this line have a lot of ‘memory’?

Drennan has struck a great balance here. While it is tough and sinking, it is remarkably low-memory. This means it doesn’t “coil” like an old telephone wire when it leaves the reel, leading to fewer tangles and better casting distance.

How does it handle the line clip?

Excellent. Because it has a controlled amount of stretch, it “cushions” the impact when your feeder hits the clip. This prevents the feeder from snapping back or the line from breaking under the sudden stop.
