Product Details and Uses

Drennan Loaded Crystal Waggler

The Drennan Loaded Crystal Waggler is a staple for the discerning coarse angler, renowned for its transparency and precision. Designed to be virtually invisible in the water, these floats are the go-to choice when targeting “float shy” fish in shallow or clear-water venues. By mimicking the buoyancy of traditional peacock quill while offering superior consistency and durability, they have become a benchmark for waggler fishing.

Specifications

  • Design: Straight, tubular, bottom-end attached waggler.

  • Loading: Pre-loaded with 1.5BB weight in the base.

  • Capacity: The stated float capacity is in addition to the internal 1.5BB loading.

  • Features: Interchangeable engraved base weights for fine-tuning.

  • Material: High-grade, crystal-clear plastic.

Key Features

  • Ultimate Stealth: The clear, tubular body is designed to be as unobtrusive as possible. In shallow or gin-clear water, where shadows and silhouettes can spook cautious fish, the “Crystal” finish allows the float to blend seamlessly into the environment.

  • Consistent Performance: Unlike natural materials like peacock quill, which can vary in density and weight, these floats are precision-manufactured. Every float of the same size behaves identically, giving you total confidence in your rig’s performance.

  • Exceptional Casting: The internal 1.5BB loading in the base ensures these floats “fly” straight and true, even in blustery conditions. They are engineered to cut through the air, making them exceptionally easy to cast accurately to your chosen spot.

  • Adjustable Tuning: The interchangeable engraved weights allow you to quickly adjust your setup. If you need to change your shotting pattern or compensate for different bait sizes, you can fine-tune the float without having to re-tie your rig.

Pro Tip for Anglers

To get the most out of these floats, ensure they are attached bottom-end only. Use two small float stops or a small split shot and a float adapter to lock the float in place; this allows you to quickly adjust your depth without damaging your mainline. If you find the fish are feeding very shallow, don’t be afraid to fish “on the drop”—by using the loaded weight of the float, you can keep your shotting close to the float, allowing the bait to sink slowly and naturally through the water column, which is often when the biggest fish will strike.

Where to Use

  • Clear Commercial Fisheries: Perfect for targeting wary Carp, F1s, or Tench when a traditional dark-coloured float would be too visible.

  • Shallow Canal Stretches: Where depth is limited and you need a delicate presentation to avoid spooking fish near the bottom.

  • Stillwater/Lake Fishing: Ideal for all-round silverfish angling, providing the sensitivity to see “shy” bites from Roach and Skimmers while maintaining the weight needed to hit a target distance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What does “1.5BB in the bottom” mean for my shotting?

The float is pre-loaded with 1.5BB. This means the float is already “cocked” with 1.5BB of weight. If the float is labeled as having a “2g” capacity, it means you can add an additional 2g of shot to your line to get the float to your preferred setting. It makes setting up your rig much faster.

Can I use these in windy conditions?

Yes. Because they are loaded in the base, they remain very stable in the water. To further stabilize the float in a crosswind, try sinking your mainline between the rod tip and the float; this helps eliminate the “bow” in the line and ensures you maintain a direct, sensitive connection to your bait.

Are the tips easy to see?

The tips are designed to be high-visibility without being overly bulky. If you are struggling to see them in low light or at distance, you can lightly touch the tip with a bit of bright orange or yellow float paint to increase contrast against the water surface.
