Product Details and Uses

Gemini Splash Down Mould Kit: Precision Engineering for Your Own Sinker Production

For the serious shore angler, lead weights aren’t just anchors—they are the delivery system for your rig. At Gerry’s Fishing, we know that the Gemini Splash Down system has revolutionized distance casting. The Splash Down allows your baited hook to be locked securely behind the sinker during the cast, only releasing upon impact with the water. This Gemini Splash Down Mould Kit gives you the professional tools to cast your own 100% reliable, aerodynamic sinkers from the comfort of your own workshop.

The beauty of the Splash Down system lies in its “locked-in” stability. By keeping the bait tucked behind the lead, you eliminate the “helicopter” effect that ruins casting distance and tangles rigs. This kit is ideal for those who use “off the ground” casting styles, as the hook cannot accidentally unclip during the power stroke. The provided two-piece aluminum alloy mould is precision-engineered to produce consistent, high-quality weights that perform exactly like the shop-bought versions.

Why Cast Your Own Splash Down Sinkers?

  • Cost Efficiency: If you fish rough ground or high-tide marks where lead losses are common, making your own sinkers significantly reduces your long-term costs.

  • Tailored Performance: With the variety of tail wires and the sizing spacer, you can create the “perfect” lead for your specific rod and casting style.

  • The Splash Down Advantage: Unlike traditional bait clips that can “prematurely” release in mid-air, the Splash Down system is mechanically locked until it hits the sea, ensuring maximum aerodynamic efficiency.

  • Aerodynamic Stability: The shape produced by this mould is designed to fly straight and true, even in heavy crosswinds, helping you reach those distant sandbanks.

Pro Tip from the Gerry’s Team

The “Dry Run” Safety Check: Before pouring molten lead, always pre-heat your aluminum mould (on a radiator or with a heat gun) and ensure it is 100% dry. Even a single drop of moisture can cause a “spit” when the hot lead hits it. Once cast, ensure the internal bait clip moves freely. A tiny drop of silicone oil on the internal plunger will guarantee that 100% release every time, session after session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the bait clip really release every time?

Yes. The Splash Down mechanism is pressure-activated by the water impact. Because the hook is locked inside the housing, it cannot come out during flight, but the moment the lead hits the surface, the internal plunger is pushed back, releasing your rig instantly.

What weights can I cast with this mould?

By using the included sizing spacer, you can adjust the mould to cast the most popular shore fishing weights, typically ranging from 130g to 170g. This allows you to match your lead to the tide and wind conditions.

Are the internal clips reusable if I lose the lead?

If you lose the lead to a snag, the clip is lost with it. However, if you are simply refreshing an old lead, the Splash Down components can be removed and reused in a fresh casting if they are in good condition. Replacement component packs are always available at Gerry’s.

Is it difficult to assemble the wires and clips?

Not at all. The kit comes with a step-by-step guide. You simply place the tail wire and the bait clip assembly into the designated slots in the mould before closing it and pouring the lead. The lead “sets” around the components, locking them into the perfect position.
