The HTO Slow Jig 100g is the ultimate finesse tool for vertical jigging in UK waters. While heavier jigs are designed for deep-water “wrecking,” this 102mm model is the perfect choice for inshore reefs, sandbanks, and shallower marks where a more subtle, fluttering presentation is required. Its flat, bullet-shaped profile ensures it cuts through the water column quickly, allowing you to reach the “kill zone” at the bottom with precision—essential when the boat is drifting over a tight piece of structure.
The magic of this jig lies in its “slow” mechanics. Unlike traditional high-speed jigs that require aggressive cranking, the HTO Slow Jig is designed to be worked with rhythmic, measured lifts. The slightly contoured body and high-quality holographic patterns create intense flashes and vibrations as the lure tumbles on the fall. This “fluttering” action mimics a dying baitfish, a signal that predatory fish find impossible to resist. This method is incredibly productive and has been responsible for catching over 40 species in the UK alone.
Finesse Profile: At 102mm, this jig offers a smaller, natural silhouette that is ideal when fish are feeding on smaller prey or being cautious.
Rapid Descent: The streamlined bullet shape ensures you hit the seabed fast, maximizing your active fishing time during every drift.
Holographic Attraction: Deep-etched patterns reflect minimal light, providing a high-visibility target even in deeper or slightly murky water.
Contoured Flutter: The asymmetrical design ensures the jig doesn’t just sink—it vibrates and kicks side-on during the drop, which is when the majority of strikes occur.
Versatile Species Appeal: From hard-hitting Bass and Pollack to bottom-dwellers like Wrasse, Gurnard, and even the occasional flatfish.
Inshore Reefs & Rock Hopping: Perfect for depths between 30ft and 80ft where you want to maintain total control and “feel” through the rod.
Neap Tides & Calm Water: When the tidal flow is light, the 100g model offers a much more enticing, “weightless” flutter than heavier 200g alternatives.
Kayak & Small Boat Fishing: A favorite for kayak anglers who need a lure that is heavy enough to reach the bottom but light enough to work with shorter, lighter rods.
The secret to the 100g Slow Jig is “slack-line” management. When you lift the rod and then drop the tip, do it quickly enough that the line goes momentarily slack. This “releases” the jig, allowing it to kick sideways and flutter—this is when nearly all of your bites will happen! Please Note: These jigs are supplied without hooks. For the best hook-up rate and to prevent snagging the seabed, we recommend rigging them with a single HTO Assist Hook at the top eye only.
What size Assist Hook is best for the 100g model? For this 102mm body, a size 1/0 HTO Assist Hook is usually the perfect match. You want the hook to sit roughly 1/3rd of the way down the jig body.
Can I use this on a standard spinning rod? While you can use it on a heavy spinning rod, you will get a much better action using a dedicated Slow Jigging Rod. These have a springy, parabolic action designed to “flick” the jig for you.
Is this weight suitable for deep-water wrecks? In very deep water (100ft+) or during strong spring tides, a 100g jig may struggle to stay vertical. In those conditions, we recommend stepping up to the 150g or 200g versions.
Are these jigs saltwater resistant? Yes, they feature a durable finish designed for the marine environment. We always recommend a quick rinse in fresh water after use to keep the holographic finish sparkling
