The heart of this system is the revolutionary No-Trace Bead. Unlike traditional beads that have small bores and can get stuck on knots, the No-Trace Bead features a large bore and a clever side slot. Once the bead pops off the tapered Chod Sleeve under pressure, it falls away from the leader entirely. This leaves the hooklink’s ring swivel completely free to slide over any knots, weed, or leader joins, ensuring the fish is never left tethered to the lead or leader.

What happens to the No-Trace bead after it pops off?

The bead is designed to fall off the line entirely. While this means you lose the bead, it is a small price to pay to ensure a fish isn’t tethered to a heavy lead and leader. Replacement No-Trace beads are available separately at Gerry’s.

Why do I need a Barrel Bead?

The Barrel Bead acts as the “stopper” for your hooklink. You slide it onto the leader to determine how far up the leader you want your Chod rig to sit. It provides the resistance needed for the hook to prick the fish, but slides down easily under the pressure of a hooked fish to activate the safety release.

Can I use this on “Naked” Chod rigs (straight to mainline)?
