The Silt Adjustment:

When fishing over soft silt, don’t keep your top bead (the one the hooklink rests against) right down by the lead. Slide it roughly 6 to 10 inches up the leader. This ensures that when your lead “plugs” into the soft silt, it doesn’t drag your hooklink down with it. Always moisten the leader with a bit of lake water before moving the beads to prevent friction heat from damaging the leadcore fibers!

Is this safe for the fish if my mainline breaks?

Yes. The No-Trace Bead is the key. It has a slot in the side that allows it to pop off the sleeve and fall away from the leader under pressure. This leaves the hooklink swivel free to slide over any knots and off the end of the line, leaving the fish free of the lead.

How do I attach it to my mainline?

The easiest and strongest way is a “loop-to-loop” connection. Tie a large figure-of-eight loop in your mainline, pass it through the leader’s spliced loop, and then pass the entire leader through the mainline loop. Alternatively, you can use a standard Grinner or Palomar knot.

Can I reuse the leader after catching a fish?

Absolutely. Kable leadcore is extremely durable. After a catch, just check the length of the leader for any signs of heavy abrasion or “fuzzing.” If it looks clean and the splices are intact, it’s ready to go again.

Do I need to buy the beads separately?

No, each pack of three leaders comes fully loaded with the No-Trace beads and the Heli-sleeves. You simply need to add your lead and your hooklink.
