Korda Booms 5.5″ QC – 25lb

The Spinner Rig (or Ronnie Rig) has arguably become the most effective pop-up presentation in modern carp fishing. However, its effectiveness relies entirely on the “boom” section being perfectly straight and incredibly stiff to reset itself after a fish or bird disturbs the bait. At Gerry’s Fishing, we know that not everyone has the time—or the eyesight—to tie these fiddly sections perfectly on the bank. These Korda Booms QC are the professional, ready-tied solution that ensures your rig mechanics are “spot on” every single cast.

Tied using Korda’s renowned Boom Fluorocarbon in a 25lb breaking strain, these sections are practically invisible underwater while remaining stiff enough to kick your hookbait away from the lead. One end features a neat, pre-tied loop for your lead system, while the other houses a high-quality QC Swivel tied with a secure loop knot, allowing for 360-degree rotation of the hook.

Key Features & Performance

  • Instant Spinner Rigs: These eliminate 90% of the work. Just add your favorite hook, a kicker, and a bit of putty, and you have a world-class pop-up rig in seconds.

  • The “Reset” Factor: Because they are made from 25lb Boom, these sections are very stiff. If a fish samples the bait and ejects it, the boom “kicks back,” resetting the bait so it’s still fishing effectively.

  • QC (Quick Change) Convenience: The integrated QC swivel allows you to swap out blunt hooks instantly without having to tie a whole new rig.

  • Perfect 5.5″ Length: This shorter 5.5-inch version is the ideal choice for fishing over cleaner lake beds, gravel, or firm sand where a low-profile presentation is key.

  • High-Tensile Strength: The 25lb breaking strain is robust enough to handle massive carp in and around weed or snags, providing total peace of mind.

Examples of Where to Use

  • Hard Gravel Bars: The 5.5″ length is perfect for hard, flat spots. It keeps the pop-up close to the deck, creating a tight, efficient “trap” for cruising fish.

  • Solid PVA Bag Alternatives: While a bit long for inside a bag, these are excellent when fished alongside a small PVA mesh stick. The stiffness of the Boom ensures the stick doesn’t tangle with the hooklink.

  • Pressured Waters: In clear, pressured lakes, the invisibility of the fluorocarbon boom is a massive advantage over coated braids, as it doesn’t cast a shadow and blends with the water’s clarity.

  • Clay or Sand Patches: The shorter length ensures the rig remains streamlined and doesn’t stand too far off the bottom when fishing on very firm, flat substrates.

Gerry’s Pro Tip

The Straightening Secret:

Even though these are pre-tied, they can occasionally take on a slight curve from being in the packet. To get the best out of your Spinner Rig, the boom must be pin-straight. Simply hold the boom under tension between two rig tools over a steaming kettle for a few seconds. The fluorocarbon will “set” perfectly straight and become even stiffer, which dramatically improves the rig’s anti-tangle properties!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use these with any hook?

Yes, but they work best with patterns like the Korda Krank or Kurv Shank. You will need to use a Kicker or a piece of Shrink Tube to secure the hook to the QC swivel and ensure it sits at the correct angle.

Why would I choose 5.5″ over the 7.5″ version?

It all comes down to the lake bed. If you are fishing on hard gravel or sand, the 5.5″ is more discreet and efficient. If you are fishing over light “chod,” silk weed, or soft silt, the 7.5″ version is better as it allows the hookbait to sit on top of the debris while the lead sinks in.

Is the QC Swivel reusable?

Yes. As long as the Boom material hasn’t been kinked or frayed during a fight, you can simply unclip your blunt hook, slide on a fresh one, and you’re back in the water. This makes these booms very cost-effective over a long session.

Do I need a Krimp tool for these?

The loops on these Booms are already tied, but if you want to create your own variations using the same material, the Korda Krimp Tool is recommended. For these specific pre-tied sections, no tools are required other than for attaching your hook/putty.
