Product Details and Uses

Korda QC Booms 7.5″ – 25lb

The Spinner Rig is a modern classic, but its success depends entirely on the “kick” and rigidity of the boom section. At Gerry’s Fishing, we know that bankside time is precious. The Korda QC Booms are the ultimate shortcut to professional-grade rig mechanics, offering a perfectly tied, ultra-stiff fluorocarbon boom that ensures your rig is always fishing at its maximum potential.

Constructed from the legendary 25lb Korda Boom, these 7.5-inch sections provide incredible anti-tangle properties. The stiffness of the fluorocarbon ensures that the hooklink is always pushed away from the lead during the cast, while the near-invisible finish keeps things discreet on the lake bed. Featuring a pre-formed loop at one end and a high-quality QC (Quick Change) Swivel at the other, these are the foundation of the perfect Ronnie or Spinner rig.

Key Features & Performance

  • Optimal Rig Reset: The 25lb Boom material is renowned for its “spring-back” memory. If a fish samples your bait and ejects it, or if it is moved by bird life, the boom will instantly kick the hookbait back into its original position.

  • Invisibility & Stealth: Being a high-grade fluorocarbon, these booms have a similar refractive index to water, making them virtually disappear on the lake bed compared to traditional coated braids.

  • Quick-Change Efficiency: The integrated QC swivel allows you to swap out blunt hooks in seconds. Simply unclip, slide on a new hook with a kicker, and you are back in the water without needing to tie a single knot.

  • 7.5″ Length Advantage: This longer version is the ideal “all-rounder” for varied lake beds, providing enough clearance for the hookbait to sit proud even in light debris or silk weed.

  • Precision Loop Strength: Each boom features a perfectly tied loop at the lead end, designed for use with Kwik Links or standard swivel connections, providing a robust and reliable anchor for big fish.

Examples of Where to Use

  • Silty Lake Beds: When fishing over soft silt, the 7.5″ length is superior to shorter booms. It provides more “reach,” ensuring your hookbait doesn’t get dragged into the muck when the lead settles.

  • Light “Chod” & Silk Weed: On venues with light bottom debris or low-lying silk weed, the extra length of these booms allows your pop-up to sit comfortably on top of the debris, keeping your hook point clear and ready for action.

  • Long-Distance Casting: The inherent stiffness of the 25lb Boom makes these virtually tangle-proof. Even on extreme range casts, the rig will stay straight and land perfectly every time.

  • High-Pressure Clear Water: In pits with extreme water clarity, the fluorocarbon’s low visibility makes it the perfect choice for fooling wary, older carp that have become “leader shy.”

Gerry’s Pro Tip

The “Super-Straight” Finish:

While these come ready-to-use, they can sometimes take on a slight curve from the packaging. For a Spinner Rig to work at 100% efficiency, the boom must be as straight as an arrow. We recommend holding the boom under tension between two rig tools and passing it through the steam of a kettle for just 3–5 seconds. This “sets” the fluorocarbon, making it even stiffer and perfectly straight, which vastly improves its anti-tangle and resetting properties.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which hooks should I use with these QC Booms?

These are designed to be used with “Spinner” style hook patterns. The Korda Krank or Kurv Shank are the industry favorites. Simply slide the eye of the hook over the QC swivel, secure it with a Korda Kicker, and your rig is ready.

Why choose the 7.5″ version over the 5.5″ version?

The 7.5″ boom is much more versatile for general angling. If the lake bed is slightly uneven or has light weed, the longer boom ensures your bait remains visible. The 5.5″ version is typically reserved for rock-hard gravel bars or very clean sand patches.

Can I reuse the booms?

Yes, absolutely! One of the biggest benefits of the QC system is that the boom section is often reusable for several sessions. As long as the fluorocarbon isn’t kinked, frayed, or damaged, you can simply change the hook and keep fishing.

Do I need a krimp tool?

No. These specific booms come pre-tied and looped. You only need a krimp tool if you are buying the raw Korda Boom material to tie your own custom lengths. These are a “plug and play” solution.
