The Preston Innovations Monster XTR Pro 4oz Quivertip is the “engine room” of the spare tip range, offering the ideal balance for medium currents and breezy reservoir sessions.

Built from ultra-responsive, high-modulus carbon, this tip is designed specifically for the Monster XTR Pro rod range. It features the signature American Tackle distance guides, which are larger and tilted to reduce line “choke” and allow bulky shock-leader knots to pass through without snagging. This tip is your go-to when the 3oz starts to “fold” under the pressure of the wind, but you aren’t yet in the territory of a flooded river.

The “Current Tension” Rule: When you’re fishing a river like the Trent or the Ouse, the 4oz tip is often the “sweet spot.” If you find that the current is pulling your 3oz tip around into a full circle, step up to the 4oz. It allows you to set the rod with just enough “bend” to stay stable, while still leaving enough travel in the tip to “snap back” and show a bite when a fish dislodges the feeder.

While the base diameter may be similar, the XTR Pro tips use the specific American Tackle distance guide configuration. For the best performance and guide alignment, we recommend using these only with the XTR Pro series blanks.

Is carbon better than glass for a 4oz tip?

For distance work, absolutely. Carbon is much stiffer and recovers faster, which is essential for accurate casting. Glass is usually reserved for light-duty, close-range fishing where a very slow “tilt” is required.

Can I use this tip with braided line?
