Trigger explosive strikes even when the water is quiet with the Rapala Jointed 13cm 18g. Here at Gerry’s Fishing, we know that predators can sometimes be notoriously finicky, entering a negative feeding mood where standard lures just get ignored. That is exactly when you need to tie on this legendary jointed bait.
Featuring a slight, seductive exaggeration of Rapala’s world-renowned “baitfish in distress” action, this lure is a proven day-saver. The articulated body produces a wide, sweeping swimming motion that practically demands attention. Whether you are twitching it on the surface or cranking it down deep, the Rapala Jointed is a masterclass in predator temptation and a must-have in your tackle box.
Exaggerated Distress Action: The jointed body amplifies the classic Rapala wounded minnow swimming action, sending out intense distress vibrations that predatory fish cannot resist.
Highly Versatile: Just like the Original Floating model, it can be fished from top to bottom, adjusting to wherever the fish are holding in the water column.
Negative-Mood Specialist: The absolute perfect choice for when fish are lethargic, highly pressured, or strictly in a negative feeding mood.
Premium Construction: Built with tough, balsa wood construction and fitted with razor-sharp VMC treble hooks to ensure maximum hook-up ratios.
Hand-Tuned & Tank-Tested: Every lure is individually inspected to guarantee it swims perfectly straight out of the box.
The Rapala Jointed 13cm is a highly dynamic tool for the modern lure angler. The segmented body design catches more water during the retrieve, allowing the lure to swim with a much wider, more pronounced kick even at incredibly slow speeds. This is crucial when targeting cold-water pike, sluggish zander, or pressured bass that won’t chase down a fast-moving bait. The aggressive “broken back” motion signals a vulnerable, dying baitfish—triggering an involuntary, predatory strike response.
Because it is a floating lure, its practical applications are vast. Cast it out and let it settle on the surface, giving it small twitches to mimic a struggling fish, before beginning a slow, steady retrieve to pull it under. Alternatively, it is a phenomenal trolling lure. When trolled behind a boat, the articulated body works flawlessly at varied speeds, maintaining its rhythmic thumping action without blowing out or rolling over.

Shallow Weedbeds and Margins: Because it floats at rest, you can crank it down over submerged weedbeds and pause it to let it rise over snags, making it perfect for shallow, snaggy bays.
Slow-Moving Rivers: Cast across the current and slowly retrieve it back; the jointed body will work the flow, creating an irresistible side-to-side flash.
Deep Lake Trolling: A highly effective trolling bait when you need to cover large expanses of water to locate roaming packs of pike or large trout.
Cold Water Conditions: When water temperatures drop and fish become lethargic, the ability to fish this lure incredibly slowly without losing its action makes it a deadly winter weapon.
Gerry’s Fishing Pro Tip: > When you know predators are in the area but they refuse to commit, employ the “Stop-and-Go” retrieve. Crank the handle three or four times to pull the lure down, then completely stop. The jointed tail will naturally kick out to the side as the lure slowly begins to float upwards. 90% of your aggressive strikes will happen exactly on this pause!
Does this lure sink when I cast it out?
No, the Rapala Jointed is a floating lure. It will sit on the surface until you begin your retrieve, at which point the diving lip will pull it down into the water column. It will slowly float back to the surface whenever you pause.
What species is the 13cm model best suited for?
At 13cm (just over 5 inches), this is a substantial meal. It is exceptionally effective for Pike, large Zander, big Bass, and specimen Trout.
Can I fish it fast, or does it only work slowly?
While it is famous for its slow-speed action, it is incredibly stable. You can certainly burn it back or troll it at higher speeds, and the tail will beat furiously to draw reaction strikes from active, aggressive fish.
Do I need to tune the lure before using it?
No! Every single Rapala balsa lure is hand-tuned and tank-tested at the factory before being packaged. It is guaranteed to swim perfectly straight and true from your very first cast.
