The SeaTech French Boom is a proven, no-nonsense way to build a tangle-free flying collar rig for boat and wreck fishing. Originally developed off the southwest coast of England, this stiff wire boom holds your hook trace clear of the mainline as the rig sinks, so long traces and lures drop cleanly instead of wrapping round the lead line on the way down.

This pack contains 10 x 10 inch SeaTech French Booms in tough stainless steel, built to shrug off saltwater and the knocks of repeated drops over wrecks and rough ground. The central loop lets you fasten the boom straight onto your rig line with a simple twist, or you can tie your mainline to the top of the boom and add a weaker rotten bottom link down to the sinker, so a snagged lead breaks away without costing you the whole rig.

Pair your French boom with a 12–18ft hook trace and a rolling swivel to cut down on line twist. Let the rig sink freely, then lift the lead a foot or so off the bottom and work it back with a slow, steady retrieve – counting your reel turns as you go helps you find the depth the fish are feeding at again on the next drop.
