The Shimano Moonshot Spinning Inshore rod series is a specialized range of high-performance rods developed in Japan specifically for saltwater shore casting. These rods are the choice for anglers targeting species like Sea Bass, Flatfish, and Leerfish from various coastal platforms, including beaches, rocky shores, breakwaters, and harbor walls. The Moonshot is engineered to maximize casting distance and provide the sensitivity needed for successful inshore lure fishing.

Product Details and Uses

The Moonshot rods are celebrated for their incredible balance, light feel, and exceptional tip speed, which combine to cast hard baits and metal jigs to extreme ranges.

Intended Use: Saltwater Shore/Inshore Spinning. Primarily designed for long-range casting of medium-sized hard baits (plugs) and metal jigs.
Target Species: Sea Bass, Flatfish, Bluefish, and various other coastal predators.
Action Profile: Moderate-Fast (MF) action. This design offers the flexibility in the tip section for easy lure loading and distance casting, while the strong lower section provides the power for effective hooksets and fighting fish in turbulent environments.
Blank Technology: The blank is constructed from high-modulus full carbon and features Shimano’s proprietary reinforcement:
- Hi-Power X: This technology involves diagonally wrapping carbon tape around the blank’s outermost layer. This “X” wrapping process significantly increases the blank’s torsional rigidity (resistance to twisting) and enhances overall strength. The result is sharper, more responsive control, rapid tip recovery during casting, and superior power transmission during the fight.
Guides: The rod is fitted with a high-quality guide system to handle modern braided lines:
- Fuji K-Type Alconite Guides: Used throughout the main section to improve line flow, minimize friction, and prevent tangles (wind knots), especially when casting high-performance braids.
- Fuji SiC Tip Guide: A Silicon Carbide tip guide is utilized for its supreme hardness and low friction, which is crucial for reducing wear and maximizing casting performance.
Handle and Reel Seat:
- Reel Seat: An ergonomic, custom-designed Shimano reel seat is used to ensure comfort and a secure lockdown of the reel.
- Grips: High-density EVA Split Grip Handles are used for assured, comfortable handling and superior control.
