The Sonubaits Band’Um Wafter (6mm) is the ultimate “finesse” hookbait for the modern match angler. While 8mm and 10mm baits are the standard for big carp, the 6mm version is the secret weapon for targeting wary F1s, skimmers, and “pressured” carp that have seen it all.

A wafter is designed to be critically balanced—meaning it should float on its own but sink slowly once the weight of your hook and bait band is added. This creates a bait that “wafts” or hovers just above your feeder pile. Where to Use the 6mm Band’Um Wafter

Method Feeder: Position the wafter at the very top of your groundbait or pellet mound. It will hover right in the “face” of any fish investigating the feeder.
Pellet Waggler: Because it sinks slower than a standard pellet, the 6mm wafter spends more time in the “feeding zone” as it falls, making it a killer for carp cruising high in the water.
Bomb and Pellet: Use a 6mm wafter on a long hair rig over a bed of 4mm micro pellets for a subtle, natural presentation.

Because different hook patterns have different weights, a size 16 in one brand might sink a 6mm wafter, while a size 16 in another might let it float away. You want it to sink ‘like a feather’—barely touching the bottom. If it’s too buoyant, try a slightly larger hook; if it’s too heavy, it’s not a wafter! My favorite? The Salted Caramel Two-Tone. It looks just like a washed-out pellet but smells like a bakery—carp can’t resist it.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will a 6mm wafter be too small for double-figure carp?

A: Never. In fact, many of the biggest carp on pressured UK commercials are caught on 6mm baits because they look more natural and ‘safe’ than a large 10mm boilie.

Q: Why are there different colors in one tub?

A: Light levels and water clarity change throughout the day. Sometimes a bright white bait stands out, other times a subtle ‘natural’ color buys the bite. Having a mix means you can experiment without buying five different tubs.

Q: Can I use these on a bait spike?

A: You can, but the Band’Um shape is really optimized for bait bands. If you use a spike, be careful not to split the 6mm bait, as they are quite small. A micro-spike or a fine band is usually best.

Q: Do I need a special tool to put them on?

A: A simple Pellet Bander or Bait Bander makes life much easier. Just stretch the band, pop the 6mm Band’Um in the middle, and let it go. It’s rock-solid and ready to cast.
