Spomb X Reel

Introducing the Spomb X Reel, a purpose-built spodding/Spombing reel developed from the ground up in the UK specifically for casting Spombs and other baiting devices. Designed with durability, efficiency and reliability, at its core, this reel is tailored for serious anglers who demand the ultimate performance from their Spomb setup, day in day out. And we are confident that more time, effort and thought has gone into the Spomb X reel than any other “spod” reel in history!

Unlike general-purpose reels and others that call themselves Spod reels, the Spomb X Reel is engineered exclusively for bait deployment. Every component and feature has been carefully considered to withstand the unique demands of casting fully loaded Spombs repeatedly throughout a session. Super high spec/high strength aluminium brass combination machine cut gearing has been included which ensures ultimate long term performance.

At the heart of the reel is a robust 25kg-rated Quick Clutch system with a high-performance Carbon Matrix drag. This powerful drag setup eliminates spool slip on the cast—an essential feature when punching heavy Spombs long distances with total safety, control and confidence.

To ensure long-term reliability in harsh, wet conditions, the drag, rotor, and body are all sealed to minimise liquid ingress. This protective sealing significantly extends the working life of the reel, keeping its performance consistent even through sustained exposure to water, spray, and bait residue. And we have included a grease port for maintenance, further prolonging the life of the reel.

Featuring slow oscillation gearing, the reel provides superb line lay across the spool, helping to reduce wind knots and enhance casting efficiency. When using 300 metres of 0.18mm braid, the spool is filled to its optimal level—striking the perfect balance between maximum casting range and preventing frustrating frap-ups and tangles.

With a gear ratio of 5.2:1, the reel has a seriously fast retrieval of 124cm of line per handle turn, letting you quickly bring back empty Spombs, maximising your time and efficiency.

To further enhance baiting precision, the reel is equipped with dual line clips, allowing for pinpoint accuracy when casting to your chosen spots. These clips feature a soft-sprung design with protective surrounds that cushion the line, helping to maintain its condition even after prolonged and repeated use—ensuring long-term reliability and accuracy every time you cast out.

The body and rotor are constructed from a carbon-reinforced nylon composite, offering superior strength without excessive weight. At just 603g, the reel remains comfortable during prolonged baiting sessions, reducing fatigue when casting repeatedly at long range.

Casting safety and reliability are also improved through a rotor brake mechanism, which reduces the chance of bail arm rotation during the cast. This feature ensures the bail remains firmly in place, preventing any accidental knocks from your hand that could lead to the bail arm closing and a crack off occurring. Additionally, the reel does not have a return ramp, eliminating the risk of the bail arm snapping shut mid-cast and causing a crack-off—one of the most frustrating and avoidable mishaps during baiting. Fitted with a 3+1 bearing system, smooth operation is guaranteed. The reel also includes a dependable anti-reverse mechanism.
