When you need a bait that offers a more substantial food signal while maintaining a massive attraction profile, the 4mm Krill Pellets are the professional choice. At Gerry’s Fishing, we understand that while smaller pellets have their place, the 4mm version is the “workhorse” for the angler targeting larger carp and barbel. These pellets utilize the same legendary two-stage coating process as the rest of the Krill range, ensuring your swim is flooded with natural attractants from the moment they hit the water.
The dual-action coating is what makes these pellets truly special. The primary layer is loaded with pure Antarctic Krill meal; upon submersion, these fine particles break away and move vertically through the water column, intercepting cruising fish. The secondary coating then takes over, leaking a dense, deep-orange cloud of amino acids and salts that settles on the lake bed. Because the 4mm size has a larger core than its 2.3mm counterpart, it offers a slower breakdown time, providing a sustained food source that keeps big fish rooting around your baited area for hours.
| Feature | Specification |
| Main Ingredient | Pure Antarctic Krill Meal |
| Diameter | 4mm (Sustained food source) |
| Coating Process | Advanced two-stage “Active” coating |
| Water Column Effect | Dual-action: Rising/falling particles + bed-hugging cloud |
| Color | Natural deep orange |
| Bag Sizes | 900g and 2.5kg |
| Compatibility | Spod mixes, PVA bags, and loose feeding |
Long-Term Baiting Campaigns: The 4mm size is perfect for “priming” a swim. They take longer to break down than smaller pellets, ensuring there is still physical food present if the fish don’t move onto your spot immediately.
Heavy River Fishing: For Barbel and Chub specialists, these pellets are a must. They are heavy enough to stay put in a moderate current and offer a larger profile that big river fish can easily locate and consume.
Spod and Spomb Mixes: Adding 4mm pellets to a mix of hemp and boilies provides a varied “particle size” approach. This keeps fish preoccupied and less likely to spook as they move between different sizes of food.
Catfish Tactics: The high protein and intense scent of krill are a massive draw for catfish. The 4mm size can be fed in large quantities to create a massive scent trail that predators can follow from a long distance.
The “Glugged” Pellet Edge: To make these 4mm pellets even more effective, try “curing” them in Sticky Baits Krill Glug or Pure Krill Liquid 24 hours before your session. The larger 4mm core will soak up the liquid like a sponge. Once they hit the water, the “leakage” time is almost doubled, creating an even more intense orange attraction cloud that stays active right through the night.
How long do the 4mm pellets take to break down?
Depending on water temperature and flow, the 4mm pellets generally offer a breakdown time of 1 to 2 hours. The outer “active” coatings begin working immediately, while the core remains as a physical food item for much longer than the 2.3mm version.
Can I use these in PVA mesh bags?
Yes, they are ideal for PVA mesh. Unlike very small pellets that can leak through the mesh, the 4mm size stays securely inside, allowing you to create a tight “parcel” of bait directly next to your hookbait.
Are these suitable for use on a hair rig?
While they are firm, they aren’t designed to be drilled and used as a hookbait. For the best results, we recommend using a Krill Dumbell Wafter or a Krill Hard Hookbait over a bed of these pellets to ensure your presentation is perfect.
Will they work in the winter?
Absolutely. Because Krill is a natural, highly soluble protein source, these pellets will still leak attraction in cold water. However, in the depths of winter, you may want to mix them with the 2.3mm version to ensure you get a faster initial response while the 4mm pellets provide the longevity.
