Fishing over “the rough stuff” usually means risking your gear, but the Tronixpro Canny Link II (Regular), available at Gerry’s Fishing, is designed to tip the odds back in your favor. This clever bit of terminal tackle is a hybrid lead clip and weak-link system, specifically engineered to provide a streamlined cast while allowing you to ditch your lead if it gets snagged.
The Mk II version features a significant design upgrade: both tails now face the same direction. This small but vital change ensures that both the lead and the hook release more efficiently and simultaneously the moment they hit the water. It’s the perfect solution for the shore angler who needs to hit distance over rocks, kelp, or snags without the fear of a tangled or tethered rig.
| Feature | Details |
| Model | Tronixpro Canny Link II |
| Size | Regular |
| Design | Dual-Tail Release (Same-way facing) |
| Function | Integrated Lead Clip & Weak Link System |
| Ground Type | Rough Ground / Heavy Kelp / Rock Marks |
| Pack Size | 10 Links Per Pack |
Main Construction: Tie your rig body line to the top loop of the Canny Link.
The Weak Link: Tie a short section of lower-breaking-strain mono (the “weak link”) to the bottom loop, then attach your lead to this line.
The Set-Up: Place the eye of your lead into the bottom clip and tuck your hook into the top link.
The Cast: During flight, the rig is perfectly streamlined. Upon impact with the water, the tails release the lead and hook instantly. If the lead snags, the weak link snaps, allowing you to retrieve your rig (and hopefully your fish!) without losing the whole setup.
“The Canny Link II is a game-changer for Pulley Rigs on rocky marks. Because the Mk II tails face the same way, the release is incredibly reliable. When setting your weak link, I recommend using a line that is about 50% of your main rig body strength (e.g., 30lb weak link for a 60lb rig). This ensures it’s strong enough to handle the ‘thump’ of the lead hitting the water but will definitely snap before your main knot does if you get wedged in a crack!”
How many come in a pack?
Each pack contains 10 Tronixpro Canny Link II units, giving you plenty of backups for those high-loss rough ground sessions.
Will the hook release every time?
Yes. Because the hook and lead are released by the same physical action (impact and slack line), the Mk II design is one of the most reliable ‘bait-shielding’ systems on the market for rough ground fishing.
Can I use this for power casting?
Absolutely. While the lead is held in place during the cast, the link is designed to take the force. However, always ensure your weak-link mono is tied securely and is of a high enough quality to withstand the initial acceleration of the cast.
Is it better than the original Canny Link?
The Mk II is a definite improvement. By having both tails facing the same direction, the ‘clash’ that occasionally happened with the original model is eliminated, leading to a much higher percentage of successful releases
