The HTO Yo Yo 18g is a highly specialized shore slow jig designed from the ground up to offer an erratic, unpredictable action that standard symmetrical metals simply cannot replicate. At 18g, it hits the absolute sweet spot for light shore jigging (LSJ), providing enough aerodynamic mass to reach distant sandbars and deep gullies while remaining light enough to be worked creatively on standard spinning and light game setups.
The secret to its success is its highly unconventional asymmetry, making it an incredibly lethal weapon when targeting hard-hitting marine predators like bass, pollack, coalfish, and wrasse.
The design of the HTO Yo Yo features a two-pronged, uneven weight distribution. Looking down at the profile, one side of the jig is completely flat while the other side is noticeably fatter. To add to this imbalance, the center of gravity is biased heavily toward the rear of the lure.
When you cast, the rear weight bias makes it fly straight and true like an arrow. However, the moment it hits the water, the flat-and-fat side dynamics take over. Instead of dropping like a stone, it enters a slow, highly erratic, fluttering horizontal descent. It shimmies, slides, and catches the light unpredictably, perfectly mimicking a dying or disoriented baitfish trying to escape the seabed.
To capitalize on this movement, each lure is coated in five highly reflective holographic patterns and finished with a UV Blast coating to maximize visibility at depth. It comes fully rigged with quality stainless steel split rings and a front-mounted HTO Shore Assist hook carrying a dancing lure flash attractor.
| Feature | Specification |
| Weight | 18g |
| Lure Type | Asymmetrical Shore Slow Jig – Solid Metal |
| Geometry | Flat-sided / Fat-sided imbalance with rear weight bias |
| Hook Setup | Premium HTO Shore Assist hook with integrated flash tinsel |
| Hardware | High-grade saltwater stainless steel split rings |
| Coating | High-reflectivity holographic paint + UV Blast finish |
| Target Species | Bass, pollack, coalfish, large wrasse, mackerel, and gurnard |
| Tactics | Shore Slow Jigging, Light Shore Jigging (LSJ), and deep vertical fluttering |
Deep Water Rock Marks & Ledges: Exceptional for working down steep rock steps and kelp margins where pollack and coalfish patrol, waiting to ambush prey dropping down through the water columns.
Tidal Tidelines & Estuary Mouths: The 18g weight allows you to punch through coastal crosswinds to target bass hunting along current seams and gravel banks.
Sandy & Shingle Beaches: Ideal for executing a shore slow-jigging routine across clean ground to target bottom-dwellers like gurnard, sea trout, or flatfish attracted by the visual puff of sand on the lift.
Pro Tip: Do not fish the HTO Yo Yo with a fast, straight retrieve. It is designed explicitly for a “lift and fall” cadence. Cast out, let it sink to the bottom on a taut line, and give the rod tip 2 or 3 slow, progressive upward sweeps to lift the jig a few feet off the deck. Then, drop the rod tip down slightly slower than the fall of the lure to guide it down on a semi-slack line. The fatter asymmetric belly will cause it to dance and stall horizontally on the drop—which is exactly when 90% of predatory hits will occur.
Standard casting jigs (like the HTO Tic Tac) are symmetrical and excel at fast, straight-line retrieves or sharp vertical snaps. A slow jig like the Yo Yo is designed to maximize its time in the strike zone on the drop. Its asymmetrical body forces it to flutter slowly horizontally as it sinks, giving slow-moving or cautious predators much more time to strike.
Because the Yo Yo has a rear weight bias, mounting a treble hook on the tail would cause the lure to constantly snag the seabed, rock debris, and kelp during a slow jigging retrieve. The top-mounted assist hook rides clear of the deck when lifted, drastically lowering your snag rate while positioning the hook exactly where predators target the lure—the head.
This lure pairs beautifully with a light game or dedicated light shore jigging (LSJ) rod rated around 7-28g or 10-30g. Pair it with a 2500 or 3000 size spinning reel loaded with 0.10mm to 0.14mm braided line. Always finish the rig with a 3ft to 4ft leader of 8-12lb fluorocarbon to absorb the shock of forceful casts and protect against abrasive rocks.
