Unlock the potential of light-lure shore angling with the HTO Shore Jig 12g. Here at Gerry’s Fishing, we know that when the fish are feeding on small baitfish at distance, a standard soft plastic or plug often falls short. This compact, aerodynamic metal jig is designed to bridge that gap, offering the incredible casting range of a much larger lure while maintaining the delicate profile of a small sprat or sandeel.
Whether you are scanning the surface for marauding mackerel or working the depths for bass and pollock, the HTO Shore Jig is a lethal addition to any saltwater lure box. Its holographic finish and high-frequency vibration make it an irresistible target for any predator hunting in the surf or off the rocks.
Realistic Baitfish Profile: Mimics the slender, shimmering profile of a distressed baitfish, a universal trigger for saltwater predators.
Aerodynamic Design: The streamlined, rear-weighted shape allows for massive casting distances, even when casting directly into a stiff coastal headwind.
Holographic Attraction: Features a high-quality holographic finish that catches and reflects even the smallest amounts of light, visible from long distances underwater.
Saltwater Tough Hardware: Fitted with a high-strength, corrosion-resistant treble hook designed to stay sharp and secure through countless battles in harsh saltwater.
Versatile Action: Effective on a straight retrieve, a sink-and-draw “jigging” motion, or a high-speed burn across the surface.
The HTO Shore Jig 12g is a master of “Light Game” saltwater fishing. At 12g, it is perfectly balanced for use with modern LRF (Light Rock Fishing) or light spinning rods, typically those with a casting weight up to 15g or 20g. The magic of this lure lies in its versatility throughout the water column. When allowed to fall on a “slack” line, the jig flutters and flashes like a wounded minnow, often triggering strikes before you even begin your retrieve.
Practically, this jig is a “search bait.” Because you can cast it so much further than a traditional lure, you can cover a vast amount of water in a short time to locate the shoals. It is particularly effective during the summer months when mackerel and garfish are pushing baitfish toward the shore, or in the autumn when bass are feeding heavily on fry before the winter. Its 12g weight makes it ideal for shallower marks or when you want a slower fall rate to keep the lure in the “strike zone” for longer.

Pier and Harbour Walls: Perfect for “vertical jigging” against the wall for pollock and wrasse, or casting out into the tide for mackerel.
Rock Marks: The 12g weight allows you to work the lure over submerged kelp beds and rock gullies without snagging as easily as a heavier 20g or 30g jig.
Open Beaches: Ideal for reaching those distant sandbars where bass often cruise, especially when there is an onshore wind that stops other lures in their tracks.
Estuaries: Use it to target sea trout or bass in fast-moving tidal flows where the slim profile cuts through the current effectively.
Gerry’s Fishing Pro Tip:
To maximize the “distress” signal of this lure, try the ‘Long Slide’ technique. Cast out and let the jig hit the bottom. Rip the rod tip up sharply about 3–4 feet, then let it fall back down on a semi-tight line. Most of your takes will come on the drop when the jig is fluttering uncontrollably. Always keep an eye on your line for any sudden twitches or stops!
What rod should I use with the 12g HTO Shore Jig?
For the best performance, we recommend a light lure rod with a casting rating of around 5–20g. This allows the rod to “load” properly during the cast, giving you maximum distance, and provides enough sensitivity to feel the lure’s flutter.
Can I replace the treble hook with a single assist hook?
Yes, many anglers prefer to swap the rear treble for a single “assist” hook at the head of the jig. This reduces snagging on the seabed and makes unhooking fish much faster and safer, particularly when catch-and-release fishing for bass.
Is the holographic finish durable?
HTO has applied a tough clear-coat over the holographic foil to protect it from the abrasive nature of sand and rocks. However, like all metal jigs, it will eventually show battle scars from toothy predators—which many anglers believe actually adds to the lure’s effectiveness!
How deep can I fish this 12g jig?
While you can fish it in any depth if you wait long enough, the 12g version is most efficient in water depths between 2 and 10 metres. If you are fishing very deep water or in extremely heavy tidal currents, you may want to step up to the 18g or 25g versions to maintain contact with the lure.
