The absolute heavy-ordnance powerhouse of the range, the HTO Yo Yo 38g is a high-performance shore slow jig engineered to dominate the deepest coastal waters, the most powerful tidal races, and extreme headwinds. At 38g (approaching 1.5oz), this substantial metal jig delivers true ballistic casting performance. It is your ultimate long-range weapon when you need to punch a lure out past distant reef breaks, hit deep swirling gullies, or hold the bottom in roaring open-ocean currents.
By moving up to the 38g model, you gain a lure that cuts through heavy coastal swells and drops into the feeding zone with incredible speed, all while maintaining the signature slow-fluttering horizontal action that makes the Yo Yo range so deadly.
The genius of the HTO Yo Yo 38g lies in its clever asymmetrical geometry. Looking down at the body, one side of the jig is completely flat, while the opposing side is noticeably fatter and rounded. Additionally, the structural mass is biased heavily toward the rear of the lure.
When casting, that rear-weight distribution ensures the jig flies straight as an arrow without tumbling or catching the wind. However, the moment it enters the water and the line is paused, the flat-and-fat side dynamics take over. Instead of dropping vertically like a standard heavy piece of lead, the flat side catches the water to stall the descent, forcing the heavy 38g body into an erratic, slow-fluttering horizontal slide on the drop.
To maximize this light-catching action in deep water or murky swells, each jig is finished in a choice of five highly reflective holographic patterns and treated with a high-reactivity UV Blast coating that reacts vibrantly to ultraviolet rays. It comes fully rigged with rugged stainless steel split rings and a front-mounted HTO Shore Assist hook with an integrated flash attractor.

Deep Ocean Tide-Rips & Headlands: The definitive choice for fishing rocky points exposed to powerful coastal tides. The 38g weight cuts through surface currents beautifully to reach big predators ambushing baitfish right on the seabed.
Deep Water Reefs, Wrecks & Rough Ground: A superb tool for working deep vertical water columns from steep rock marks, breakwaters, or small watercraft, where you need to get down past 40ft+ quickly.
Extreme Distance Coastlines: Perfect for launching long-range casts past the breaking surf from shingle or sand beaches, targeting bass and sea trout tracking sandeel shoals far off the shelf.
Pro Tip: Because the 38g model carries significant physical mass, it is exceptionally effective when fished with a classic “Shore Slow” style presentation. Cast out, let the jig hit the seabed, and instead of whipping the rod violently, lift the rod tip smoothly from 9 o’clock to 12 o’clock with a progressive sweep. Then, drop the rod tip back down at a controlled pace to follow the line down. The 38g body will kick sideways, flutter, and stall horizontally on the fall. Always keep your finger lightly touching the line during this drop—the vast majority of big bass and pollack will smash the lure precisely as it flutters downward.
Standard symmetrical casting jigs are built for high-speed, straight retrieves or fast vertical snaps. If you retrieve them slowly, they lose their action. A slow jig like the Yo Yo is engineered to maximize its time in the strike zone on the descent. Its flat-sided belly forces the heavy 38g weight to drift and flutter slowly through the water column, giving larger, more cautious predators plenty of time to target and attack it.
Towing a standard rear-mounted treble hook across a rocky seabed with a 38g lure is a recipe for lost gear. HTO solves this by using a top-mounted assist hook layout. Because the assist hook is attached via a braided link to the front of the jig, it naturally rides upwards and clear of the bottom during a lift-and-drop retrieve, drastically reducing your snag rate over rough ground and kelp beds.
To cast this 38g lure effectively and work its slow-jigging action, scale up from standard ultra-light LRF gear. Pair it with a dedicated light shore jigging (LSJ) or medium-heavy spinning rod rated up to 40g, 45g, or 50g. Match this with a 3000 or 4000 size spinning reel spooled with 0.14mm to 0.18mm braided line, and always finish with a 3ft to 4ft shock leader of 12-20lb fluorocarbon to handle rock abrasion.
