The Sunset Brass Bait Needle is an essential technical accessory for any shore or boat angler who prioritizes perfect bait presentation. These 20cm needles are specifically designed to facilitate the “threading” of delicate worms—such as Lugworm, Ragworm, or Maddies—onto the hook and up the trace. Made from high-quality brass, they offer a smoother surface than stainless steel, reducing the friction that can often tear the skin of fresh bait.
At Gerry’s Fishing, we consider a good worm needle to be the secret to “distance” bait fishing. By using a needle, you ensure the worm is perfectly straight on the hook, which prevents the bait from “helicoptering” in the air and significantly improves your casting aerodynamics.
| Feature | Details |
| Material | High-Quality Brass |
| Diameter | 1.5mm (Standard/Universal) |
| Length | 20cm (8 inches) |
| Quantity | 2 Needles per pack |
| Protection | Includes clear protective storage tube |
1.5mm Diameter: This is the “Goldilocks” size for bait needles. It is thin enough to thread through delicate Blow Lug or Ragworm without bursting them, yet rigid enough to handle large King Rag or multiple worms for a “cocktail” bait.
Brass Construction: Brass is naturally corrosion-resistant and provides a very slick surface. When wetted, the bait slides effortlessly off the needle and onto the hook/line, ensuring the internal juices of the worm are preserved.
Pointed & Hollow Ends: One end is pointed for easy entry into the bait, while the other end is hollowed out to accept the point of your hook. This creates a seamless bridge between the needle and the hook for a perfect transfer.
20cm Length: The 20cm length is ideal for creating large “sausage” baits or for threading multiple worms to create a substantial profile for species like Bass, Cod, or Rays.
Protective Tube: Supplied in a clear tube to keep the needles straight and prevent the sharp points from damaging your tackle bag or fingertips.
Thread the Bait: Insert the pointed end of the needle into the head or tail of the worm and slide the worm all the way onto the brass shaft.
Engage the Hook: Place the point of your hook into the hollow end of the brass needle.
The Transfer: Hold the line taut and slide the worm off the needle, over the hook eye, and onto the hook shank or snood line.
Final Check: Ensure the hook point is exposed at the head of the worm for a high hook-up rate.
The Sunset Brass Bait Needle is a simple but vital tool. If you are serious about your shore fishing, especially when using expensive fresh worms, these needles are a must-have. They save time, save your bait from damage, and ensure your rig looks as natural as possible on the seabed.
Gerry’s Pro Tip: Always keep your needles in the provided tube when not in use. A bent needle is frustrating to use and can ruin a perfectly good worm. If you are fishing for Flatfish or Bream, the 1.5mm diameter is perfect for threading thin, delicate “Maddie” (Ragworm) bunches which are often irresistible to these species
