Solar Prodding Stick Kit

Feel Everything. Locate the Perfect Spot.

At Gerry’s Fishing, we believe that the difference between a blank and a “red-letter day” is often down to inches. The Solar Prodding Stick Kit allows you to accurately map the lake bed from a boat or by wading. By physically prodding the bottom, you can distinguish between “dead” silt, “clean” silt, clay, gravel, and different types of weed.

The kit is made from high-grade, lightweight aluminium and is designed to be screwed together in sections. This allows you to tailor the length to the depth of the water you are fishing. With a ergonomic handle and a specialized “disc” foot to prevent the stick from sinking too deep into soft silt, it is the ultimate tool for total bankside confidence.

Key Performance Features

  • Instant Tactile Feedback: The rigidity of the aluminium sections transmits the vibration of the lake bed directly to your hand. You’ll feel the “clink” of gravel and the “thud” of clay instantly.

  • Dual-Tip Versatility: Use the Rounded Point for pinpointing hard spots and feeling for vibrations. Switch to the Disc Foot when you want to measure the depth of soft silt without the stick burying itself.

  • Depth Accuracy: With clear depth markings etched along the sections, you can precisely find the depth of a clear patch, allowing you to set your zig rigs or adjustable markers with 100% accuracy.

  • Screw-Together Design: Unlike push-fit sticks that can pull apart in thick mud, the stainless steel threaded joints ensure the stick remains one solid piece until you are ready to pack it away.

  • Ergonomic Handle: The EVA grip ensures that even with wet hands, you have a firm hold for “tapping” the bottom to check for feeding activity or disturbed silt.

Where to Use the Solar Prodding Stick Kit

This is a must-have tool for any angler who takes watercraft seriously:

  • Boat Fishing & Dropping Rigs: When using a boat to drop your rigs, use the stick to find the exact edge of a weed bed or the hardest part of a gravel bar before placing your bait.

  • Wading in the Margins: If you are fishing a venue where wading is allowed, use the stick to check the stability of the bottom before you step, and to find hard spots within casting distance of the bank.

  • Identifying “Dinner Plates”: Use the stick to find those small, polished areas where carp have been actively feeding—often called “dinner plates”—which are almost impossible to find with a leading rod.

  • Measuring Silt Depth: By using the disc foot, you can see how much “chod” or silt is on the bottom, helping you decide whether to use a helicopter rig or a standard lead clip setup.
