Is 145cm retrieval too fast? Will it damage the Spomb?

Not at all. Spombs are designed to skip across the surface on retrieval. The 145cm retrieve rate actually helps keep the Spomb on the surface and “skating,” which reduces the underwater drag and makes it feel much lighter on your arm as you wind.

Why is it heavier than the Spomb E Reel?

The Rapide is a larger 14000-size reel compared to the 12000-size E Reel. The extra weight (653g) comes from the larger spool diameter and reinforced internal gearing required to handle the incredible speed and torque of a 145cm retrieve.

Will the line clips damage my braid?

The Rapide features two sprung line clips. These are specifically designed to have a bit of “give” when the line hits them at the end of a cast, cushioning the impact and preventing the braid from shearing or kinking, which is a common issue with traditional fixed metal clips.

Can I use this for playing fish?

While it has a powerful 18kg drag, we wouldn’t recommend it as a primary fishing reel. The ultra-fast gear ratio and spool design are specialized for spodding. Using it to play large carp could lead to premature wear on the gears compared to a dedicated big pit fishing reel designed for torque rather than speed.
