Finding the perfect spot on the lakebed is the single most critical factor in catching big, wary carp. While a standard smooth marker lead is great for feeling a solid “donk” or identifying clean gravel, it can easily slide right over vital clues. The Korda Grapple Lead has been engineered specifically to take your lakebed mapping to extreme levels, revealing hidden features, natural larders, and debris that traditional leads miss entirely.
Featuring four clever, wire prongs, the Grapple Lead acts like a miniature anchor for your feature-finding setup. As you pull the lead across the lake bottom, these prongs rake through the subsurface, collecting physical evidence of exactly what you are fishing over—whether it is strands of silk weed, decaying detritus, or rich natural food sources.

Standard smooth marker leads can mask what is truly happening on the bottom. The Grapple Lead changes the game. Prior to casting, simply click the four wire prongs up into their locked, upright position. Cast out and feel for the drop as normal. As you slowly retrieve and sweep the rod back, the prongs actively scoop and trap whatever they encounter, giving you an undeniable physical sample of the swim when you wind it back to the bank.
Carp don’t just feed on clean gravel; they love to target areas packed with natural food. By using the Grapple Lead, you can locate thick silt beds and pull back physical proof of bloodworm beds, freshwater snails, or pea mussels trapped within the wires. Finding these natural holding areas is often the key to unlocking tricky, hard-fished venues.
Anglers are often hesitant to pull pronged leads through heavy weed or snags for fear of losing their entire marker float setup. Korda solved this with a clever tension-release design. If the Grapple Lead encounters a severe obstruction—like deep weed, rocks, or heavy mussel beds—and locks up, you simply apply steady, firm pressure. The prongs will safely pivot down, releasing their grip on the snag and allowing you to retrieve your rig completely intact.
Pro Tip: Never rely on just one cast. When you find a spot that feels interesting, use the Grapple Lead to cast 2-3 feet past, left, and right of the area. Inspect the prongs on every single retrieve. If you pull back clean gravel on one cast and the prongs are packed with bloodworm-rich silk weed on the next, you have just located the exact spot where the clean hard bottom transitions into a natural feeding shelf—the ultimate area to drop your hookbait.
Unfamiliar & New Venues: An essential tool for your first session on a new lake, helping you map out the topography and bottom layout far quicker than standard methods.
Weedy Waters: Ideal for determining the density and type of weed (e.g., low-lying silk weed vs. thick Canadian pondweed), helping you choose between a chod rig, a solid bag, or a clear-spot presentation.
Silt & Bloodworm Hunting: Perfect for natural-venue anglers looking to map out organic, food-rich areas in large expanses of uniform mud or silt.
