Product Details and Uses

Daiwa Sensor Monofilament (300m): The UK’s Most Trusted Line

There is a reason why Daiwa Sensor remains the number one selling monofilament in the UK. At Gerry’s Fishing, we recognize it as the industry standard for reliability. Whether you are a match angler, a specimen hunter, or a sea angler, Sensor has earned its reputation through decades of rugged performance. It has scooped multiple awards and famously landed two British record carp, proving that it can handle the most intense pressure when it matters most.

Available here on a convenient 300m filler spool, it is the perfect choice for loading up a single high-capacity reel or multiple smaller reels. Sensor is celebrated for its amazing durability and “tough-as-nails” nature, yet it remains surprisingly supple and easy to cast.

Why Daiwa Sensor Dominates the Market

  • Exceptional Reliability: Sensor is famously consistent. Unlike some budget lines that have thin or thick spots, Sensor maintains a precise diameter throughout the entire 300m spool, ensuring even line lay and predictable breaking strains.

  • Superb Knotting: One of Sensor’s greatest strengths is how well it takes a knot. It “beds down” perfectly without scorching or weakening, giving you total confidence when playing large fish in demanding conditions.

  • Suppleness & Casting: Despite its ruggedness, the line is remarkably supple. It flows off the spool with minimal memory, which helps increase your casting distance and reduces the risk of “frap-ups” or tangles.

  • Rugged Durability: This line is built to be “worked.” It handles abrasive environments—like gravel bars, pier stanchions, or weed beds—better than almost any other monofilament in its class.

Pro Tip from the Gerry’s Team

The “Wet-Load” Technique: To get the absolute best performance from your new Daiwa Sensor, we recommend soaking the spool in a bucket of lukewarm water for about 20 minutes before spooling it onto your reel. This softens the nylon slightly and allows it to bed down tightly and evenly on the reel hub. When winding it on, run the line through a wet cloth to maintain consistent tension—this will virtually eliminate line twist from day one!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this line suitable for sea fishing?

Absolutely. Many sea anglers use Sensor for their reel mainlines because of its incredible abrasion resistance against sand and shingle. It is a fantastic choice for both beach and boat work.

What color is the line?

The 300m spools are most commonly found in the iconic Sensor “Brown,” which offers excellent camouflage against the lake bed or in murky water. It is also available in a clear finish for those who prefer a more “stealth” look in high-clarity water.

How many reels can I fill with a 300m spool?

This depends on your reel size. A standard 3000 or 4000 size spinning reel typically takes between 150m and 200m of line. A 300m filler spool is usually enough to fill one large sea reel or two smaller coarse/spinning reels if you use a bit of “backing” line first.

Is it good for float fishing?

Yes. Because it is supple and has great knot strength, it works very well for float fishing. While it isn’t a dedicated “floating” line, it can be treated with a bit of line degreaser or floatant to help it sit exactly where you want it in the surface film.
