Product Details and Uses

Garbolino Suppra Speed 428 – 3.0m (4 Sections)

When the fish are “on it” at close range, there is no faster tool in the world than a high-quality 3-metre whip. The Garbolino Suppra Speed 428 is the definitive choice for the professional match angler who needs to capitalize on every second of a “bagging” session. Designed for ultra-high-speed fishing, this 3-metre model is the shortest in the prestigious 428 range, offering the most direct, reactive connection possible between your wrist and the fish.

At Gerry’s Fishing, we know that silverfish matches are often won or lost by the narrowest of margins. The Suppra Speed 428 allows you to build a weight of bleak, roach, or rudd with incredible efficiency. Built from High-Modulus (HM) Carbon, this 4-section telescopic whip is practically weightless in the hand, yet it possesses a rigid spine that provides an instant strike response. The ultra-fine, spliced-in solid carbon flick tip ensures that even the smallest hooks don’t “bump” fish on the strike, acting as a natural, seamless shock absorber.

Key Features & Performance

  • Ultimate Finesse: The 3.0m length offers surgical precision for fishing right under the rod tip or just past the near-bank cover.

  • HM Carbon Blank: Provides a “crisp” action with zero recovery lag—the whip returns to a straight line instantly after the strike.

  • Telescopic Simplicity: No joints to slide together; simply extend the four sections and start fishing. This makes it perfect for “searching” through different depths quickly.

  • Ergonomic Handling: The slim butt diameter and specialized grip finish ensure the whip remains comfortable and secure, even when your hands are wet or covered in bait.

  • Spliced Flick Tip: The fine-tuned solid carbon tip is designed to handle light rigs and thin-wire hooks, ensuring maximum catch-to-strike ratios.

Where to Use the Suppra Speed 428

  • Bleak Snatching: The absolute “gold standard” for river bleak fishing. When the fish are boiling on the surface just 3 metres out, this whip will catch them faster than any other method.

  • Canal Pegs: Perfect for “punch” fishing for small roach or using pinkies for perch right at the base of the near-side shelf.

  • Junior Coaching: Its light weight and easy telescopic setup make it a fantastic tool for introducing younger anglers to the art of speed fishing.

  • Commercial Silvers: Use it during the “dead” hours of a match to snatch small rudd and F1 “stockies” from the margins to keep your weight ticking over.

💡 Gerry’s Pro Tip

Speed fishing is all about rhythm. With a 3-metre whip, your rig should be exactly 15cm shorter than the whip itself. This creates a perfect pendulum effect. When you hook a fish, a slight upward and backward flick of the wrist will bring the fish directly to your hand. You shouldn’t have to reach for it—it should “fly” right to you. If you’re missing bites, check that your flick tip isn’t “line wrapped”; at this speed, a small wrap can lead to a lost fish or a snapped tip!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Is the 3m version too short for most matches?

A: Not at all! While you won’t use it on every peg, when the fish are in the “short hole” or the bleak are close-in, a 3m whip will always out-fish a 4m or 5m whip because the cycle of casting and retrieving is so much faster.

Q: Can I replace the tip if it breaks?

A: Yes. While the Suppra tips are very robust, they are a specialized part. We recommend contacting us here at Gerry’s if you need a genuine Garbolino replacement to ensure the telescopic taper remains perfect.

Q: What is the best way to store this whip?

A: Because it is telescopic, always wipe the sections down with a dry cloth as you collapse them. Even a tiny bit of grit inside the sections can cause “binding” or scratches that could weaken the carbon over time.

Q: Do I need a landing net with this?

A: For silverfish up to 4oz, you can “swing” them directly to hand. However, if you hook a “bonus” 1lb roach or a small carp, the flick tip will flex to protect your line, but you must use a landing net to avoid putting too much stress on the fine carbon tip.
