At Gerry’s Fishing, we’ve seen the “pellet cone” technique transform from a niche match-winner to a staple tactic for every serious commercial angler. The Guru Pellet Cones are the ultimate solution for creating a compact, high-attraction pile of feed directly around your hookbait. This system provides a “Method-like” presentation without the weight or splash of a heavy feeder, making it the perfect choice for wary fish that have become spooked by the constant bombardment of larger tackle.
Whether you are fishing a standard lead or a small bomb, these cones ensure a tangle-free delivery every time. By pulling your hooklength through a compressed cone of softened 1mm to 3mm pellets, your hookbait is nestled perfectly in the center of the feed. As soon as the cone hits the bottom, it breaks down, leaving your bait as the focal point of a tiny, irresistible pile of attraction.
| Feature | Specification |
| Pack Contents | 3 Sizes per pack (Small, Medium, Large) |
| Bait Compatibility | 1mm, 2mm, and 3mm softened pellets or groundbait |
| Rig Integration | Optimized for Guru Micro Lead Clips & Size 11 Snap Links |
| Presentation | Tangle-free, aerodynamic feed pile |
| Casting Range | Suitable for all distances (marginal to long-range) |
| Material | Durable, flexible high-impact polymer |
Aerodynamic Tangle-Free Design: The cone is shaped to follow the lead through the air. This eliminates the “helicopter” effect that often causes hooklengths to wrap around the mainline, ensuring your rig is fishing perfectly the second it touches the lakebed.
Tactical Versatility: With three sizes included in every pack, you can perfectly match your feed rate to the conditions. Use the small cone for “picking” out bites in the winter and the larger version when the fish are feeding aggressively in summer.
Speedy Set-Up: These cones are engineered to work seamlessly with the Guru Size 11 Snap Link Swivel. This allows you to unclip your hooklength, slide on a fresh cone, and be back in the water in seconds—vital when you’re on a “bagging” session.
Stealth Presentation: Because the cone has no internal weight, it makes a much smaller “plop” on entry compared to a feeder. This is a game-changer when fishing in shallow water or tight to island margins where carp are easily spooked.
The “Perfect Squeeze” Factor: To get the best results, the moisture level of your pellets is critical. If they are too dry, the cone will shatter on impact; too wet, and they won’t release. After softening your pellets, let them stand for about 20 minutes to get that “sticky” texture. When loading the cone, give it one firm thumb-press. You want the cone to stay together during the cast but “explode” open almost instantly once it reaches the bottom.
Winter “Bomb and Pellet”: When the water is cold and fish aren’t moving far for food, a tiny “small-size” cone of 2mm pellets is often the only way to induce a take. It provides just enough attraction to hold a fish without overfeeding them.
Island Margin Stalking: The quiet entry of a pellet cone is much more discrete than a heavy Method feeder. It’s the lethal choice for casting tight to island vegetation where carp are patrolling.
Deep Water Commercials: On deep venues where a traditional feeder might lose its bait on the way down, a compressed pellet cone protects your feed until it hits the bottom, ensuring your presentation is 100% accurate.
Searching the Swim: If you aren’t sure where the fish are, the aerodynamic nature of the cone allows you to fan-cast across your peg with total confidence that your rig won’t tangle.
To build the “Ultimate Pellet Cone Rig,” we recommend these essential components:
Guru Micro Lead Clips: The secure way to mount your lead for this setup.
Guru Size 11 Snap Link Swivels: Essential for the “speed-change” method.
Guru 2mm Feed Pellets: Perfectly sized for the internal bore of these cones.
Guru Bait Needle: For effortless pulling of the hooklength through the cone.
How do I attach the cone to my rig?
It’s simple! Use a bait needle to pull your hooklength through the center of the compressed cone. Then, attach your hooklength loop to a Guru Snap Link Swivel. Pull the cone down so it sits against the hookbait, and you are ready to cast.
Do the pellets fall out during the cast?
If compressed correctly and using “softened” pellets, the cone will stay fully intact during flight. The air pressure during the cast actually helps keep the pellets pushed into the cone until it hits the water.
Can I use these with larger 4mm or 6mm pellets?
We don’t recommend it. Larger pellets don’t “bind” together well enough to form a solid cone. Stick to 1mm, 2mm, or 3mm pellets for the most consistent and effective results.
Can I use groundbait in these cones?
Absolutely. While they are named “Pellet Cones,” they work brilliantly with a stiff, damp groundbait mix. This is a great way to create a tiny “cloud” of attraction around your hookbait.
