Product Details and Uses

Guru Pinger Carbon Stem Pole Float

At Gerry’s Fishing, we know that if there is one float that has redefined “commercial all-rounder,” it’s the Guru Pinger. Designed by the legendary Mick Wilkinson, this float is specifically engineered for the “pinging” technique—constantly feeding small amounts of pellets to draw fish into the mid-layers of the water. If you need a float that can handle the aggressive nature of “on the drop” fishing while remaining stable enough to “stay put” in a crosswind, the Pinger is the professional’s choice.

The beauty of the Pinger lies in its balance. It’s built to be virtually indestructible, featuring a rounded body profile that offers incredible stability when the water gets “choppy.” Whether you are targetting F1s in the winter or bagging up on double-figure carp in the height of summer, this float provides the perfect blend of sensitivity and durability.

Key Features & Advantages

  • Carbon Stem Performance: The carbon stem provides a slightly “slower” settle compared to wire, making it perfect for “fishing on the drop.” It allows your pellet to fall naturally through the water column, which is often when the biggest carp and F1s decide to strike.

  • Highly Visible Hollow Bristle: The medium-thickness hollow plastic bristle is a game-changer for visibility. It stands out clearly against dark water or surface glare, ensuring you never miss those “flicker” bites when a fish intercepts the bait on the way down.

  • Indestructible Construction: Mick Wilkinson floats are famous for their toughness. The side-eye is incredibly secure, meaning you can bully large fish away from reeds or through thick weed without the fear of the eye pulling out of the float body.

  • Stable Rounded Profile: The rounded body is designed to “sit” in the water rather than “ride” on the surface. This makes the Pinger exceptionally stable in windy conditions or when there is a slight “tow” on the lake, preventing your bait from dragging unnaturally.

Pro Tip from the Shop

Mastering the “Drop”: To get the most out of the Pinger, try using a “strung-out” shotting pattern with small No. 10 or No. 11 shots spaced evenly between the bulk and the hook. This creates a slow, enticing fall of the pellet. If you aren’t getting bites, slide the shots together to get the bait down faster. The Pinger’s carbon stem is designed to “cock” progressively, giving you a clear visual of exactly where your bait is in the water column.

Examples of Where to Use

  • The “Pinging” Pellet Line: The name says it all. This is the ultimate float for fishing at 13m or 14m while regularly “pinging” 6mm pellets over the top. It handles the constant lifting and dropping of the rig without tangling.

  • Rough Weather Commercials: When the wind picks up and standard “slimmer” floats start to bob and dive, the rounded profile of the Pinger keeps your hookbait stationary, which is vital for wary carp.

  • Margin Fishing for Big Carp: Don’t let the “finesse” look fool you. Because it’s indestructible, the Pinger is more than capable of being used in the margins for double-figure fish, especially when using bulky baits like corn or meat.

  • F1 Winter Tactics: In the larger sizes, the Pinger is great for fishing deeper water (5ft+) where you want the stability of a carbon stem but the visibility of a hollow tip to spot shy, cold-water bites.

Internal Link Hooks

Pair your Guru Pinger with these match-winning essentials:

  • Guru N-Gauge Monofilament: The perfect line for tying robust commercial pole rigs.

  • Guru Micro Bait Bands: Essential for presenting those 6mm “pinged” pellets.

  • Guru Super XS Eyed Hooks: The ideal hook for big-bagging sessions on the pole.

FAQs

Why choose a Carbon stem over a Wire stem?

A carbon stem is lighter and helps the float settle more slowly and naturally. Wire stems are generally for “pinning” a bait on the bottom in flowing or very deep water. For “active” fishing where you want to catch fish as the bait falls, carbon is the superior choice.

Is the bristle interchangeable?

No, the bristle is a fixed, medium hollow plastic tip. This ensures maximum strength and prevents the tip from flying off during a heavy cast or a spirited fight with a large fish.

What size Pinger should I use?

As a general rule, use 0.1g for every foot of water. If it’s particularly windy, “size up” by one to add extra stability to the rig.

How “indestructible” is it really?

While you shouldn’t step on it, the high-density foam and specialized side-eye mean these floats can handle the pressure of “hauling” big weights in match conditions better than almost any other float on the market.
