When a 3-time Fish ‘O’ Mania champion and commercial powerhouse like Andy Bennett puts his name on a bag of bait, the angling world takes notice. At Gerry’s Fishing, we’ve tested countless mixes, but the Mainline Bagga Mix Green stands in a league of its own for its sheer versatility and “big weight” potential.
Crafted specifically for the rigors of modern commercial match fishing, this mix isn’t just “another groundbait”—it is a precision-engineered blend of crushed pellets designed to keep fish pinned to the deck and feeding aggressively.
The Bagga Mix is built on a foundation of high-quality fishmeals, but the secret lies in the complex pellet profile.
Weight: 1kg Resealable Pouch.
Base Ingredients: A proprietary blend of various crushed pellets with differing oil and fishmeal percentages.
Color: Neutral “Stealth” Green – designed to blend into the lakebed and provide a safe-feeling feeding area for wary F1s and Carp.
Texture: Gritty, medium-fine “Even-Texture” grind.
Density: High-density particles designed for rapid sinking.
Active Ingredients: Multi-shade pellet speckles that release varying scent trails at different rates.
Unlike standard groundbaits that use a single base meal, Bagga Mix utilizes a “sharded” pellet approach. By grinding different types of pellets together, Mainline has created a mix where some particles release oils instantly, while others (denser, high-fishmeal shards) sit on the bottom as physical food items. You can actually see the different shades and speckles when you look closely at the dry mix.
Andy Bennett’s primary requirement was a bait that doesn’t “hang” in the upper layers. The grinding process ensures every particle soaks up water efficiently. Once fed, it travels through the water column rapidly, preventing fish from coming off the bottom and causing “foul-hooking” nightmares.
Whether you are using a pole-mounted pot or a Method feeder, the “grit” in this mix allows it to break down predictably. When compressed into a “sand-castle” (a loosely compressed ball), it hits the bottom and begins to expand outward, creating a carpet of food rather than a solid lump.
To get the most out of the Bagga Mix, the preparation is key. Here is how we recommend mixing it for the best results:
The Initial Soak: Empty the 1kg bag into a large mixing bowl. Add approximately 400ml of lake water (or a mix of water and Mainline Sticky Syrup for extra attraction).
The First Stir: Aggressively mix by hand to ensure every particle is coated. At this stage, it will look slightly over-wet—don’t panic!
The Rest (Crucial): Leave the mix for 15–20 minutes. The high-quality pellet shards will “drink” the water, fluffing up the mix.
The Riddle: Pass the mix through a medium-set riddle. This breaks up any clumps and aerates the groundbait, giving it that perfect Andy Bennett “fluffy yet heavy” texture.
Final Adjustment: If you are using it on a Method feeder, add a tiny bit more moisture via a fine mist spray until it holds on the feeder but breaks away instantly upon impact.
The Marginal “Bagger” Session: Perfect for potting in loose in the margins for big Carp. The green color won’t spook fish in shallow water.
The F1 “Slope” Attack: Use it on the far-bank slopes of snake lakes. Because it sinks fast and stays put, it won’t wash down the track.
Method & Hybrid Feeding: The gritty texture makes it ideal for sticking to a feeder, ensuring your hookbait is presented right in the middle of the attraction zone.
Bream on the Long Pole: Its heavy nature makes it a fantastic carrier for dead maggots or chopped worms when targeting Bream in deeper water.
The “Double Riddle” Secret: If you find the fish are particularly finicky (especially in colder water), riddle the mix twice. This creates an even finer cloud that keeps fish searching without filling them up.
Boost the Attraction: In the summer months, add a capful of Mainline Smart Liquid (Fish or Cell) to your mixing water. The Bagga Mix’s porous pellet shards will absorb the liquid and leak it out for hours.
The Sand-Castle Technique: When pole fishing, don’t over-compress your balls. Create a “sand-castle” that is just firm enough to reach the bottom but collapses the moment it touches the silt. This keeps fish heads-down and tails-up.
Is this groundbait too heavy for winter use?
Not at all. While it is dense, the neutral green color and the fact that it doesn’t “cloud” too much makes it excellent for winter F1 fishing when you want to keep the fish focused on a very tight spot.
Can I mix this with other groundbaits?
Yes! A popular “Gerry’s Special” is mixing Bagga Mix Green 50/50 with Mainline Cell Groundbait. This gives you the heavy sinking properties of the Bagga Mix with the legendary scent of Cell.
How much water does 1kg require?
Generally, 1kg of Bagga Mix will take about 450ml to 500ml of water, but we always recommend adding it in stages to avoid over-wetting.
Does it contain real fishmeal?
Yes, it is packed with high-grade crushed fishmeal pellets, providing the high protein signals that commercial Carp and F1s crave.
Storage: Keep in a cool, dry place. The resealable bag is great, but for long-term freshness, we recommend a dedicated bait tub or airtight bucket.
Additives: Works perfectly with all Mainline Match liquids, including the Sticky Syrups, Smart Liquids, and Wafters.
Equipment: Best used with a medium riddle and a large round mixing bowl to ensure even hydration.
