Matrix Ethos Platinum 5000

The Matrix Ethos Platinum 5000 Reel is an exceptionally balanced, mid-sized feeder reel engineered specifically for medium-to-long-range feeder tactics on commercial fisheries, lakes, and rivers. Incorporating the key design enhancements of the HX Pro development program, this 5000 size features a rigid, lightweight aluminum body paired with a carbon-reinforced rotor and a smooth one-piece bail arm for seamless line tracking.

Built for precision feeder work, it houses a slow-oscillation worm-drive gearing system that wraps line back and forth in tight, parallel coils across the easy-reach aluminum spool. It features a minimum-resistance rotor brake to stop the bail arm from shutting during high-power casts, two metal line clips for managing multiple target lines, a cranking 4.9:1 gear ratio retrieving 90cm of line per turn, and a responsive SDX multi-disc drag system.

Pro Tip

The 5000 size is the ideal workhorse for 11ft to 12ft feeder rods. Take advantage of the dual spring-loaded line clips by locking one clip to your main feeder line at distance (e.g., 45m out) and the second clip to a secondary line closer in (e.g., 25m out). This allows you to quickly alter target zones without setting up a secondary rod reel combo.

Ideal Applications & Use Cases

Medium-to-Long Distance Method Feeder Work: Perfectly matched to 11ft and 12ft distance feeder rods for hitting open-water spots between 30m and 60m with confidence.
Large Commercial Carp & Bream Fishing: The 412g frame and SDX drag system cushion powerful runs from commercial match carp while giving precise line feel for bream and skimmers.
Medium River Feeder Tactics: Handles mid-sized feeder cages, blockbusters, and lead setups on rivers like the Trent, Severn, or Ribble.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sets the 5000 size apart from the 4000 size in the Ethos Platinum range?

The 5000 model features a larger spool diameter, a slow-oscillation worm-drive system for flatter line lay, dual line clips instead of a single clip, and a minimum-resistance rotor brake for safer heavy-feeder casting.

Is this reel suitable for use with braided mainlines?

Yes, the smooth one-piece bail arm design, hard line roller, and slow-oscillation line lay make it ideal for fine braided lines fitted with monofilament or fluorocarbon shock leaders.

What does the minimum-resistance rotor brake do?

When you open the bail arm to cast, the rotor brake prevents the rotor from spinning freely under momentum, eliminating accidental bail arm snap-backs that cause line breakage and lost feeders.
