Product Details and Uses

Nytro Swivel & Knot Protector Stops

Protecting your knots is the difference between landing a personal best and telling a “one that got away” story. The Nytro Swivel & Knot Protector Stops are designed to be the ultimate insurance policy for your rig. These tapered silicone sleeves slide over your knots and the eyes of your swivels, shielding them from the constant “hammering” of running feeders or leads.

Unlike hard plastic beads that can eventually chafe or cut into your line under pressure, these are made from a high-grade, soft-touch silicone. This material absorbs the impact of the feeder during the cast and retrieve, ensuring your knot remains at its maximum breaking strain. Available in three sizes, they provide a streamlined, professional finish to any modern fishing rig.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Impact Absorption: The silicone construction acts as a shock absorber, protecting your mainline knot from the repetitive impact of sliding hardware.

  • Anti-Tangle Profile: By covering the eye of the swivel and the knot, you create a smooth, tapered transition that prevents your hooklength from snagging on exposed metal.

  • Three Precision Sizes: Whether you are using micro-swivels for silvers or heavy-duty swivels for carp, the Small, Medium, and Large options ensure a perfect, snug fit.

  • Free-Running Design: The internal bore is engineered so that while the knot is protected, the swivel can still rotate freely, preventing line twist.

  • Handy Wire Dispenser: Supplied on wire loops for “no-fumble” application—simply thread your line through the loop and slide the protector straight onto your rig.

Where to Use Nytro Protector Stops

  • Standard Running Feeder Rigs: Position the stop over the knot where your mainline meets the hooklink swivel. This protects the knot from the sliding feeder link or bead.

  • Helicopter Rigs: Use the Small or Medium sizes to cover the “fixed” knots on your rig, ensuring a streamlined profile that won’t pick up weed or debris.

  • Specimen Lead Clips: Ideal as a buffer bead when using heavy leads for Carp or Barbel, providing a soft landing for the lead system against the swivel.

  • Paternoster Rigs: Perfect for protecting the T-junction knots when fishing for predators like Perch or Pike.

Gerry’s Pro Tip

“At Gerry’s, we always say it’s the little things that catch the big fish. These protector stops are a prime example. My advice: don’t just use them to cover the knot—seat them halfway over the swivel eye. This creates a semi-rigid ‘kicker’ that helps push your hooklength away from the mainline, virtually eliminating those annoying tangles on the cast. And remember, when sliding them off the wire dispenser, a little bit of water on the line goes a long way in preventing any friction damage!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which size should I choose for standard match fishing?

A: For most commercial match tactics and silverfish work using size 14-18 swivels, the Small size is perfect. Move up to Medium for size 10-12 swivels or when using thicker monofilament lines.

Q: Will these stop my swivel from spinning?

A: No. The internal shape is specifically designed to sit over the knot and the “eye” of the swivel while leaving the barrel of the swivel free to rotate, ensuring your line doesn’t twist during the retrieve.

Q: Are they reusable?

A: While they are durable enough to be moved from one rig to another if you’re careful, we generally recommend using a fresh one for every new rig. This ensures the silicone maintains a tight, “factory-fit” grip on the swivel eye.

Q: Do they stay in place during a long cast?

A: Absolutely. The silicone has a natural “grip” on monofilament and braid. Once seated over the knot and swivel, they are incredibly secure and won’t slide up the line during high-velocity casting.
