Product Details and Uses

Nytro Floating Bait Drill

The Nytro Floating Bait Drill is the precision tool every match and specimen angler needs in their tackle box. Designed to eliminate the frustration of splitting delicate baits or losing tools to the lake bed, this drill is a game-changer for rigging. Whether you are prepping hard pellets for a band or drilling out a mini-boilie for a hair rig, the 1mm stainless steel bit provides a clean, centered hole every time.

The standout feature of the Nytro range is the high-buoyancy handle. We’ve all been there—a slip of the hand and your essential tool is gone. This drill stays bobbing on the surface, making it easy to retrieve and saving you money. Combined with an ergonomic grip and eco-friendly packaging, it’s a small tool that makes a big difference to your session efficiency.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Precision 1mm Drill Bit: The ultra-slim 1mm stainless steel bit is the perfect diameter for most modern hair-rigging accessories, ensuring a snug fit without weakening the bait.

  • High-Buoyancy Floating Handle: Never lose your bait drill again. The specialized handle material ensures the tool remains buoyant if dropped into the margins.

  • Ergonomic Power Grip: The handle is designed with a sturdy, flared shape that allows you to apply controlled pressure and rotation, even when dealing with tougher, air-dried baits.

  • Anti-Corrosion Stainless Steel: Built to withstand the damp conditions of the bankside, the drill bit resists rusting and maintains its sharpness over hundreds of uses.

  • Planet-Friendly Packaging: Part of Nytro’s commitment to the environment, featuring reduced plastic and sustainable materials.

Where to Use the Nytro Floating Bait Drill

  • Hard Pellet Fishing: Perfect for drilling a 1mm hole through 8mm or 10mm hard pellets to use with a bait band or a quick-stop on the Method Feeder.

  • Mini-Boilie & Wafter Rigging: Many modern “match” boilies are too hard for a standard needle. This drill creates a pilot hole that prevents the bait from shattering when you pull the hair through.

  • Specimen Worm Fishing: Use the drill to create a tiny channel through a piece of buoyant foam or a cork ball when “tipping” a worm to create a popped-up or critically balanced presentation.

Gerry’s Pro Tip

“The secret to using a 1mm drill is patience. Don’t try to punch the drill through in one go; instead, use a slow, steady twisting motion. If you’re drilling very hard ‘boiled’ baits, pull the drill out halfway through to clear the ‘dust’ from the flutes—this prevents the drill from binding and keeps the hole perfectly straight. And remember, because it floats, I keep mine in a small magnetic tray or right on top of my side tray; even if the wind blows it into the drink, you’re not out of pocket!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is a 1mm drill too thin for standard boilies?

A: For standard 15mm or 20mm carp boilies, a 1.5mm or 2mm drill is often preferred. However, for the 6mm to 10mm baits used in match and feeder fishing, the 1mm size is perfect because it doesn’t compromise the structural integrity of the smaller bait.

Q: Does it really float with the metal bit attached?

A: Absolutely. Nytro has carefully balanced the density of the handle to ensure it provides enough lift to keep the stainless steel bit on the surface of the water.

Q: Can I use this for drilling through tiger nuts?

A: You can, but tiger nuts are exceptionally hard. While the stainless steel bit is tough, we recommend taking extra care and using very light pressure to ensure you don’t snap the fine 1mm bit.

Q: Will this fit in a standard tackle box accessory drawer?

A: Yes, the handle is compact enough to fit into most standard seat box drawers and tackle bit-boxes while being large enough to find easily among your other gear.
