A quick 30-second rinse under the tap will keep those 4 ball bearings spinning smoothly and prevent the line from becoming ‘crusty’ with salt.”

Is 15lb line too heavy for spinning?

For very small lures (under 10g), it might be a bit thick, but for standard spinners, spoons, and soft plastics (15g–40g), it’s a great ‘safety net’ line that helps you pull lures out of light weed without snapping.

Can I change the handle from left to right-handed?

Yes! Like most modern reels, the handle on the Sphinx 4000 can be swapped to either side by unscrewing the cap on the opposite side, making it suitable for both left and right-handed anglers.

Is it suitable for beach casting?

While the Sphinx range has larger sizes for dedicated beach work, the 4000 is best suited for “light” shore work, piers, or estuaries. If you want to cast 5oz–6oz leads on an open beach, we recommend moving up to the larger Sphinx 6000 or 8000 models.
