The Breakout Roller Grip Tail Wires are an essential component for the dedicated lead-moulding angler. Engineered for reliability and ease of use, these tail wires are primarily designed to fit the popular breakout-style lead moulds but offer excellent versatility across a wide range of other mould designs. Available in both standard and integrated bait-clip configurations, they provide a secure and efficient way to finish your leads.
Quantity: 50 per packet.
Design Types: Available in Standard and Integrated Bait Clip versions.
Compatibility: Designed for breakout moulds, but widely adaptable to various other lead mould types.
Material: Corrosion-resistant, high-strength wire.
Secure Grip: The “roller” design is engineered to ensure the wire holds firmly within the lead casting. This creates a secure anchor point for your rig, preventing pull-outs even under the heavy tension of long-distance casting or retrieval through snaggy ground.
Versatile Configurations:
Standard Tail Wire: The go-to choice for classic lead setups where a reliable attachment point is all that is required.
Integrated Bait Clip: A major advantage for the distance angler. This version incorporates a bait clip directly into the wire, allowing you to clip your hook down behind the lead during the cast, which improves aerodynamics and protects your bait from “ballooning” or premature release.
Wide Compatibility: While perfected for breakout-style leads, their standardized dimensions make them a universal solution for most home-casting projects.
Value and Convenience: Supplied in packs of 50, these are a cost-effective choice for anglers who pour their own leads in volume, ensuring you always have enough components on hand for a full production session.
When pouring your leads, ensure the wire is correctly positioned in the mould before you start. If you are using the version with the integrated bait clip, double-check that the clip is centered and clear of the mould’s perimeter so it isn’t obstructed during the casting process. For extra security in the lead, slightly “roughen” the section of the wire that will be encased in lead using a small file; this creates a better bond between the wire and the molten lead, further reducing the risk of the tail wire moving over time.
Home Lead Pouring: An essential component for any DIY angler building their own supply of breakout leads.
Distance Casting: The bait-clip variant is highly recommended for beachcasting, where keeping your bait pinned to the lead is critical for achieving maximum distance and ensuring the bait arrives at the seabed in perfect condition.
Snaggy Marks: Because these wires offer a superior “lock” within the lead, they are excellent for building leads used in difficult, rocky environments where you need the lead to hold its structure even if it gets lodged between stones.
Yes, they are manufactured from a marine-grade wire designed to withstand the saltwater environment. However, like any metallic component in sea fishing, rinsing your leads in fresh water after use is recommended to keep them in prime condition.
Absolutely. While they are tailored for breakout-style moulds, their dimensions are flexible enough to be used in many other popular sinker moulds. We recommend checking your mould’s wire-groove depth to ensure a perfect fit.
Using the bait-clip tail wire simplifies your rig. Instead of needing an external bait clip on your main line or rig body, the hook attaches directly to the lead. This reduces the number of components on your rig, which can decrease tangles and makes for a cleaner, more streamlined setup.
