What is the difference between the ST8 and ST10?

Can I use the shallow spool for monofilament?

You can, but it is specifically designed for braid. The shallow depth ensures that the braid doesn’t “bury” into itself under pressure, which is a common issue on deeper spools. For 15lb+ mono, the deep spool is the better option.
